Some of the hostility toward President Ruto isn’t necessarily about development, it’s about losing the privilege of being treated as the “special region.”

For years, development was heavily concentrated in a few areas. Now roads are being tarmacked and projects are reaching places like West Pokot, and suddenly there’s discomfort.
