An open letter to @TheLancet from an Iranian-Jewish cardiologist.
Today, one of the world's most prestigious medical journals published a campaign to suspend the Israeli Medical Association from the World Medical Association — the body founded after WWII to ensure physicians would never again be weaponized by political ideology.
I'm a cardiologist. I'm an Iranian Jew who grew up under a regime where medicine was subjugated to the state.
What The Lancet just did is a disgrace to my profession.
Here's what they published — and what they deliberately left out.
‘Whatever is true, is my own’ is a useful bit of stoicism. Today, I’ve seen many people having to climb down from saying truly awful things about this case; the truth is they said these things because they couldn’t bear to agree with someone they despise. https://t.co/NPa2fVveQr
I'm sitting in my broken down car awaiting the tow truck. Luckily I have my laptop here, so can get on with things. I think perhaps some short story editing...
@AvailableForNow@jk_rowling It’s nothing to do with feelings. The act described is sexual assault. Either he did it or he didn’t. I hope the case is investigated, as should happen when such a serious crime is alleged. Don’t you think?
@AvailableForNow@jk_rowling I never used the word ‘rape’, which in the UK must involve a penis. I agree with you, we can’t see the act of which he is accused. I hope it goes to court.
@AvailableForNow@jk_rowling The claim is that he stuck his finger into her vagina. That is sexual assault. Admittedly, I can’t see his fingers in the video, but what I can see looks highly suspicious.
@nightjarpress thanks for my package, and a surprise extra story thrown in. I loved the wrapping. And yes, I was in Leeds. I’m paying heed to your comment about finding out what the Press publishes before sending my story in.
I ordered two stories from Nightjar Press for the first time. When a packet arrived just now, it was wrapped deliciously and an extra story was thrown in because it was my first order. So get ordering, short story readers!
Even if someone is verbally racist, it is (and should be) murder to stab them to death. There could have been no excuse. And I don’t believe the victim was racist, just for clarity.
@QcWynter To carry an 8-inch blade on religious grounds should not be allowed. The murderer deserves his sentence. Vile men, him and his brother, and his mother should not have removed evidence. All while a boy lay dying. The police should have assessed the scene when they arrived.
