🎉 Quite nervous and excited.
📅 Tomorrow I’m finally hitting ‘Send’ on a passion project of mine: A newsletter that curates & connects ideas in journalism - across European countries & languages.

🙌 Learning: No matter how great the topic & the speakers, the one who makes a panel shine is the moderator -> 👏🏻 to all of you.
And so my new pro tip: When you can’t decide on a panel at #ijf23, pick one with a moderator you liked before. Worked every time for me.
Bits and pieces after day 2 at #ijf23:
❤️ This pic made me happy - after the panel for Constructive Female Founders so many women came up to talk to the speakers. I really hope they develop ideas and find financing: Only 2% of the VC funding in Europe goes to female founders.
🖼️ I love a good framework and there were so many at #ijf23 yesterday: From AKAS impressive ‘Wheel of Impacts’ - that helps you track & measure the social value of your journalism - to the concepts of Backcasting & Lenses that Mediahuis uses to future proof their newsroom.
🤔 The European Perspective - how can we as journalists find it? Is it even possible to adapt one as our continent is so divers? No answers yet, but lots of bits and pieces to further think about and this phrase someone dropped at a panel: “The language of Europe is translation”
Some reflections after day 1 at #ijf23:
❤️ The ceilings, obviously. And the international chance encounters: Bumping into Finnish & US-American journalists in a queue and ending up having drinks together - that’s what makes my heart sing & this festival a special place to me
⚡️There are so many great panels this year that highlight women journalists (👏🏻 to the organizers) and the challenges we are still facing in our industry. But at the one I went to there where nearly no male colleagues. Really wondering - why are you not showing up?
Hey lovely attendees @ #AJBrussels - looking for newsletters/blogs/etc. that report on innovativ/interesting approaches to digital journalism in other European countries. What are your favourites?
👋 If you also work in that area & fancy a chat @ #AJBruxelles - DM me.

I say this to parents at school. The fat tech cats make their billions off you giving your children the latest tech gadget while they fill their houses with books.
Lovely longread-rant against monolingualism - Einsprachigkeit macht die Welt langweilig: "Every day English spreads, the world becomes a little more homogenous and a little more bland."

"Like television writers, we are searching for a compelling story, but we tend to find it in the clash of the shrillest sound bites rather than in the fine distinctions that transmit important truths." #journalism#foodforthought https://t.co/PRY7ncsRfU
Selten so eine grandios erzählte Doku gesehen. Verwebt persönliche & deutsche Geschichte zu super unterhaltsamen & gleichzeitig verstörenden 90 Minuten. Und nur noch 4 Tage online: https://t.co/JgXnJNqG9m
Discovery of the day - Christoph Niemann is also a really good TED-talker: "The real magic doesn't happen on paper. It happens in the mind of the viewer. When your expectations and your knowledge clash with my artistic intentions." https://t.co/g98PIgrqFx
