In a rare show of bipartisanship in Albany, @SalazarSenate, a Democratic Socialist from Brooklyn, with a shoutout for Assembly Member Angelo Morinello, R-Niagara Falls, for his help w/a bill.
Morinello, a retired Niagara Falls judge, is leaving office after a decade in Albany.
Let's be clear: the child care workforce is among the lowest paid workers in our state. We will not be able to deliver universal child care without increasing compensation for the workforce.
🎥 Rallied to close the funding gap for NYS #childcare & ensure #CCAP coverage!
As a working mom, I won’t stop until we make #childcare affordable & accessible for all🍼
No New Yorker should be forced to choose between paying for childcare & working to put food on the table:
NOW: I’m joining members of the Mom Squad and colleagues on both sides of the aisle to call for action to address an impending childcare crisis. This is an affordability issue, a women’s issue, and we need our Governor to step in now.
@GovKathyHochul, to put NY on a path to universal child care, you must invest in a permanent compensation fund to recruit and retain child care educators, and increase funding for the Child Care Assistance Program, so thousands of families don't have their care interrupted.
Early childhood educators have gone without a living wage for too long! Because of low wages and staffing shortages, parents struggle to access child care. @andreascousins, @carlheastie, prioritize a permanent investment for early childhood educators in this year’s budget!
Gov. @KathyHochul vetoed a bill expanding child care aid to low-income families, saying it includes costs not accounted for in the fiscal plan.
We talked w/Assemblymember @sarahhartclark about this effort, which represents a tiny part of the budget.

@GovKathyHochul, it's disingenuous to talk about affordability for NY families in one moment and then veto bills that would make child care more affordable and accessible to those same families in the next.
See our statement on the governor's veto here:

The Senate passed my bill, S4667A, to adopt a statewide presumptive eligibility standard for childcare assistance. By streamlining access to assistance, we ensure more working families quickly receive the needed support, creating a more equitable & responsive system for all NYers
Great article in Jezebel on one of our Family Civil Rights bills.
CPS is being weaponized against women — especially BIPOC women — and it's not remotely okay.

The Safe Landings Act will allow our Family Courts to enforce outstanding court orders that were issued on behalf of foster youth before their 21st birthday, ensuring that they receive supports and services that the court ordered after they turn 21.
Today, I joined @SenatorBrouk , @EmpireStateCCC, and colleagues and advocates to highlight the child care challenges faced by both families and providers.
I am proud that my bill, A.4099-A, passed the Assembly this same afternoon.
Last night, my bill, A.1303-A passed the Assembly.
This bill would eliminate a minimum earnings requirement for parents and caretakers to be eligible for child care assistance.
Every child in NY deserves full time child care regardless of whether their parents are working flex schedules or part time.
Proud to have passed this legislation which also passed in the Senate thanks to @SenatorBrisport
We look forward to @GovKathyHochul’s signature
"At a time when childcare costs are rising and providers are struggling to retain staff, many advocates said the final budget missed the mark."
