When James Dolan cancels the watch party outside MSG, we bring the watch party to you.
Thanks to the @NBA, Knicks Game 4 is now playing on dozens of @LinkNYC screens across our city.
LGK.
Been thinking about this. It's not about hoops, but it is about a hooper.
Give Wemby and his marketing team major credit.
For three or four years now he's been saying yes. Access. Interviews. Riding the subway. Playing chess. Living with monks. Voiced geopolitical takes. Stunt-y or not, doesn't matter.
I think reporters have been starved of actual access from NBA stars for a long time. From LeBron to Jokic, you only got the few crumbs that the player and his sneaker brand and his agency wanted you to have. Then, journalists (and talkshow hosts) would have to make a meal out of crumbs. (Crumbs that often came with strings attached.)
Wemby's kind've bucked that trend. So now that he's got the biggest stage of his career, those same access-starved reporters (who also, fwiw, tend to align with his politics and disposition) have got stories, angles, and the "superhero" they've craved to cover.
Whether Wemby's genuinely that guy or just plays one really well, I don't know. But from a media and marketing standpoint, he and his team ran their long play about as well as we've seen it run in a long time.
Salute.
Lot of new followers lately, so hey. I'm Michael Redd.
Some of you know me from a Final Four run at Ohio State almost 30(!) years ago, some from my stint with the Milwaukee Bucks (and Phoenix Suns), and some from my place on the 2008 Redeem Team. That said, many of you likely have no idea who I am, and that's cool too!
Since I retired from the NBA, I've been building. Ventures, investments, startups. Trying to find the next good idea and the people brave (crazy?) enough to build it. I've also been hanging with my family, been active in select charities and foundations, and been getting good (humbly, ha!) at golf.
Recently, I've been sharing sports takes on here and other platforms.
NBA, WNBA, college, some NFL and MLB. The welcome's been warmer than I expected and the internet clearly has a lot of hoops takes...and knowledge. Having a blast with it at the moment, honestly.
There's no real end goal or play in joining social after all these years. No agenda or item to sell. Ideally, I really just want to share what I know, tell some old stories, show love for the players out here doing it now and the OGs who did it before, and just talk ball with good people.
Glad you're here.
And if you made it through all of that writing and stream of thoughts, I think you might like it here, ha.
The Portland Trail Blazers organization is deeply saddened by the passing of Rick Adelman, a franchise legend and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer. Rick was one of the most influential figures in franchise history, a member of the inaugural 1970 team and integral coach throughout the 80s and 90s, guiding the team to Finals appearances in 1990 and 1992. Rick's basketball brilliance helped shape multiple eras of Trail Blazers basketball, earning the respect and admiration of the basketball community and cementing his legacy. His thoughtful leadership, integrity, and kindness impacted all those around him on and off the court. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Adelman family, and all those in the world of basketball who were touched by his impact.
I have indeed been let go after 18+ years with the @trailblazers. My sincerest thanks to all of you who have read/listened/watched/engaged with my work over the years.
@MichaelRedd_ Makes total sense. I dunno how anyone could disagree with this. Everyone and their dog having a podcast was bound to lead to drama. Sometimes nba headlines read like high school drama and it’s sooooo lame.
