@tyler21012@BNightengale I'm saying the Angels rebranded in 1966 to the California Angels when they moved to Anaheim. They embraced Anaheim until the Dodgers started winning then decided hey we are close enough we should rebrand to make more money off the Dodgers. Nobody thinks of them as an LA team
@tyler21012@BNightengale Your acting like the 49ers went form SF to LA or something. They are 43 miles away from oracle park. Right now it's less than an hours drive. Dodger stadium to Angel stadium is 30 miles. The Angles haven't been in LA in 59 years.
@tyler21012@BNightengale Because the 49ers have a rich history in SF and didn't move that far away. They are still in the Bay Area. The Angels have more of a history in a completely different city than the one they are marketed in.
@tyler21012@BNightengale The 49ers were in SF for 67 years and moved an hour away. The Angels rebranded after moving out of LA to Anaheim. Then when the Dodgers start having success again the Angels rebrand to try and ride Dodgers coat tails.
@SanPedroAce@tyler21012@BNightengale Well playoff teams are better than the majority of other teams so yeah they are good teams.
It's funny you say that and gloss over the fact the Dodgers were so badly humiliated by the DBacks and the Padres the previous 2 seasons by these cute playoff teams
@tyler21012@BNightengale It makes sense to rebrand if you are moving a significant distance like the Giants and Dodgers for example NY to CA. But moving an hour away doesn't really means anything. The Angels rebranded when they went to Anaheim. Then they went back because the Dodgers were successful.
@tyler21012@BNightengale It would make more sense to call them the Santa Clara 49ers since they are in that city. But it's harder to rebrand a team when that team was in San Francisco for 67 years prior to moving and they are still within a reasonable driving distance
@tyler21012@BNightengale Money does talk but sometimes money doesn't. Heyseong Kim signed with the Dodgers because "it's the Dodgers" his words. The next generation of Japanese/Korean ballplayers see nothing but Dodgers stuff. Of course they want to play for the Dodgers when that's all they see.
@tyler21012@BNightengale Let me ask you a very simple question. Based on your logic. How is a team with no DR suppose to recruit one if the are not allowed to market in that region as much as others? It's like an entry level job wanting someone with 5 years experience.
@tyler21012@BNightengale The 49ers entered the league in 1946 and played in San Francisco until 2013. Then moved to Santa Clara. 1 - 1 1/2 hours away. They are still close enough to be called the San Francisco 49ers. The Angels have been in Anaheim since 1966
