In 1977, fifty-nine Black and African nations gathered in Lagos for FESTAC '77. When it ended, we made a promise: to keep safe the record of a continent speaking to itself.

CBAAC was built to keep that promise — the only institution of its kind anywhere, custodian not of one nation's heritage, but of a shared continental moment.

On June 29, we welcomed Switzerland to that promise. CBAAC and the Cinémathèque suisse signed a Memorandum of Understanding — two institutions, each built to guard a nation's memory, finding a reason to work together.

Heritage is not a relic to file away. It is a living foundation this nation keeps building on.

Next year, CBAAC turns fifty.

On a lighter note, in my capacity as Co-Chair of the 69th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF), I took a moment to congratulate our African representatives at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

I also paid tribute to our remaining African giants—Morocco, Ghana, Cape Verde, and Egypt—as they continue their quest to reach the Round of 16 and beyond.

Their resilience, determination, and fighting spirit embody the pride and unity of our continent. As Africans, we stand firmly behind them, cheering them on every step of the way.

May they continue to fly the African flag with distinction and, by God’s grace, bring football’s greatest prize home to Africa.

Today, I joined fellow tourism leaders in Victoria, Seychelles, to co chair the 69th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF), where Nigeria, as First Vice Chair of the Commission, presided over the session.

Our discussions focused on strengthening human capital, improving connectivity, expanding opportunities across the continent, and advancing tourism as a catalyst for inclusive economic growth.

Nigeria remains committed to working with our African partners to build a more resilient, competitive, and sustainable tourism sector that reflects the immense potential of our continent.

59% of Nigeria's fashion workforce is female. Fashion is also the largest employer in the entire creative economy. That means the sector that employs the most Nigerians in the creative industries is majority female. When we invest in fashion infrastructure, we are investing principally in women's economic participation. That is a policy choice I make deliberately.
