WELCOME TO THE BAR: 130 ADVOCATES ENROLLED TO THE BAR

JUDICIARY: On Thursday, August 20, 2026, our most perpendicular Treasurer, a.k.a. Governor, Hon. @isikoarthur, represented the President, @IsaacSsemakadde, SC, and the entire #RadicalNewBar Governing Council at an enrollment exercise for more than 130 advocates to the High Court and subordinate courts. The event took place at the @JudiciaryUG headquarters, The Square - Kampala.

The Treasurer was accompanied by the Law Council, the advocates’ parents and guardians, and the Chief Registrar.

In his remarks, Hon. Isiko warmly welcomed the newly enrolled advocates and urged them to align themselves with the ideals of the #RadicalNewBar, including #Decolonisation, #Democratisation, and #DigitalTransformation.

He further emphasised the importance of being hands-on, technically oriented, and committed to continuous professional growth.

“Your role demands more than technical skill. It requires truthfulness, courage, humility, and ethical excellence. Uphold confidentiality, avoid conflicts of interest, honour your fiduciary obligations, and serve your clients with diligence and honesty. In a world full of injustice and inequality, your voice can be the difference. Remember always: law is not a privilege for the few, but a shield for the many,” stated Hon. Isiko.

Hon. Isiko also challenged the newly enrolled advocates to uphold the highest standards of professional ethics and morality, drawing inspiration from Proverbs 31:8–9, which calls upon us to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and to defend the rights of the vulnerable.

He encouraged them to embrace continuous professional development by actively participating in Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programmes, building meaningful professional networks, and consciously shaping a lasting legacy in the legal profession.

My advice to Hon. Balaam, guidelines that have no legal basis or force cannot be enforced as though they were law. Proceeding in their current form risks more litigation, legal uncertainty and unnecessary conflict. Good governance requires that directives operate within the law.

The Constitution guarantees every person the right to legal representation by a lawyer of their own choice. Denying or frustrating that choice is an affront to the rule of law.
