This is exactly what FDA Advisory Committees are for: independent expert review when there’s legitimate internal scientific disagreement on a drug’s risk-benefit, especially an immune-suppressing therapy in kids with surrogate-endpoint data and safety concerns (EBV reactivation, lymphopenia, malignancy concerns).
Tracy Beth Høeg didn’t demand outright rejection. Per the record and Davis memo, she couldn’t sign off and did the responsible thing: she ordered an AdComm. She was fired. The AdComm was cancelled. The drug was approved 28 days later.
The same voices who complain about the decline in AdComms support this? Process and rigor matter.
