The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Learn the Qur’an. When you have learned it, then do not go to extremes concerning it, do not abandon it, do not eat by means of it, and do not seek to increase (material/social status) through it.”
(Ahmed 15,666 - isnaad is saheeh)
Al-Fuḍayl ibn ʿIyāḍ said:
“To the extent that a sin becomes small in your sight, it becomes great in the sight of Allah; and to the extent that it becomes great in your sight, it becomes small in the sight of Allah.”
(Al-Bayhaqī in Shuʿab al-Īmān # 6751 & its isnaad is hasan)
ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Repentance from a sin is that one never returns to it again.”
(Al-Bayhaqī in Shuʿab al-Īmān (no. 6636), and its isnaad is ḥasan)
Umayr ibn Ḥabīb said:
“Iman increases & decreases.”
It was said, “And what is its increase & decrease?”
He said, “When we remember Allah, praise Him, & glorify Him, that is its increase.
And when we become heedless, neglect, & forget, that is its decrease.”
(Al-Sharīʿah 216)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“The son of Adam does not perform any deed better than prayer, reconciling relationships, and good character.”
(Isnad is ḥasan: Al-Ṣaḥīḥah #1448)
Al-ʿAllāmah Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his Tafsīr of Sūrat al-Naml (27:43):
It has been said among wise sayings:
“If you do not busy your nafs with al-ḥaqq, it will busy you with al-bāṭil.”
Al-Maʿrūr reported:
A woman who had committed adultery was brought before ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him). He said:
“Woe to the woman! She has ruined her beauty. Go and flog her — but do not tear her skin.”
Al-Baihaqi in his Al-Kubra # 17583.
Islām Manṣūr said: Ṣaḥīḥ.
