Ballistic missiles are easy to track during the launch and re-entry phases thanks to their characteristic heat signatures.

Intercepting Oreshniks with current technology seems impossible though. They certainly saw it coming, but they're powerless to do anything about it.

The real question is: how long will the time window / vulnerability stay open until interceptor technology catches up (high-powered satellite-mounted lasers, for example)? And will it be saturation-resistent?

Turkey-Iran intelligence sharing and coordination (not the first time):

The strategic counter-terrorism cooperation between Turkey and Iran continues to yield results. Thanks to real-time intelligence provided by Turkey’s National Intelligence Organisation (MIT), an attempted infiltration into Iran by the PJAK was thwarted.

A large group of PJAK militants attempted to cross from Iraq into Iran overnight. The group is reported to have operated with external backing, including support from Israeli and US intelligence services.

MIT monitored the cross-border movement using field assets and technical capabilities, identified the group’s route and coordinates, and transmitted the information immediately to Iranian security authorities under an “urgent” intelligence alert.

Acting on this intelligence, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps encircled the group in rural areas of Ilam and Kermanshah provinces, cutting off escape routes and neutralising the militants in a rapid operation.

Officials say multiple PJAK members were killed during the operation. The action has been presented as a demonstration of Turkey–Iran coordination and a message of resolve against externally backed militant groups seeking to destabilise the region.

I still remember how Donald Trump failed to subdue or occupy Yemen, a country devastated by years of war, strangled by sanctions and widely regarded as the poorest in the Middle East.

The campaign was ultimately halted not out of restraint, but because it became clear that victory was unattainable. Despite overwhelming firepower and international backing, the United States and its allies discovered the limits of military coercion when confronted with a population willing to endure and hold its ground.

The lesson is clear. The United States is not an all-powerful force when faced with determined actors prepared to absorb pressure, sustain losses and fight for control of their own terrain. History repeatedly shows that resolve, local legitimacy and endurance can neutralise even the most technologically superior military power.
