Shout out to all of my allergist colleagues for finally getting the respect you deserve for serving on the frontlines of this deeply serious, very messy and dangerous situation.
(Real talk: allergists are incredibly smart)
@SEPTA_SOCIAL Will there be an 8:01 am train from Marcus Hook to Darby today? This week’s printed schedule has one listed; however it is not in the app.
If you were told by your parents that you’re allergic to penicillin because of some reaction that occurred as a baby, then you’re not likely allergic now. Talk with your doctor about doing an oral challenge to remove that allergy.

Your friendly neighborhood allergist
My favorite ICD-10 code:
L24.6 - Irritant contact dermatitis due to food in contact with skin
Very common, particularly in children w eczema/sensitive skin. Redness on face after eating strawberries, tomatoes, sauces, etc
I LOVE clarifying this non-concerning rash for parents!
1. VAST majority of people diagnosed with penicillin allergy are not truly allergic & can receive again
2. Allergists can help clarify & guide antibiotic usage
3. Even if not clarified, cross reactivity of penicillin with cephalosporins & other antibiotics is exceptionally low
Tree pollen levels already high in the Southern U.S.
Red and orange colors will creep North in the coming weeks.
Great time for spring allergy sufferers to start using daily nasal steroid sprays - work best when started ~2 weeks before & continued daily throughout pollen season

Food allergies are diagnosed by taking a careful history detailing reproducible symptoms after every ingestion...THEN consideration of testing.
They are not diagnosed by testing for a bunch of stuff to see what comes back +.
I spend my entire day undoing harm from panel testing
