The scary thing about that video clip is that Remi Tinubu was being very honest. That is the best they can do. Like they sat down and brainstormed and came up with grants for akara and kuli-kuli. That is the extent of their brilliant thinking.
First thing we need to understand with figures of speech is that context matters a lot.
Let me explain.
This will be quite lengthy, so skip it if you have a short attention span.
Euphemism: A polite substitution used to soften meaning. It is the use of a mild, polite, or indirect expression instead of one that may sound harsh, unpleasant, or offensive.
Examples:
She passed away instead of She died.
They let him go instead of They fired him.
The purpose of a euphemism is to avoid causing discomfort or offense through one’s choice of words.
Dysphemism: A harsh substitution used to intensify meaning or express disapproval. It uses a harsh, blunt, or offensive expression instead of a neutral or polite one. (Opposite of Euphemism)
Examples:
He croaked instead of He died.
Calling a house a “shack” or an old car a “heap of junk.”
These two figures of speech are not the focus because he used Peller as an example to illustrate the decline of education and the glorification of mediocrity. The best expressions to examine here are synecdoche and metonymy, which are often confused with each other.
Moving on.
Synecdoche is a figure of speech in which a part of something represents the whole, or the whole represents a part.
It is a special type of substitution. (Hold on don’t draw your conclusions yet.)
Examples (Part for the Whole):
All hands on deck. (Hands = sailors or crew members.)
There are many mouths to feed. (Mouths = people.)
Whole for Part:
Nigeria won three gold medals. (Nigeria = the Nigerian athletes.)
The school celebrated its success. (The school = the students and staff.)
Now for metonymy. It is a figure of speech in which you refer to something by the name of something else that is closely associated with it, rather than by its own name. Get it?
For example:
The White House announced a new policy.(The White House refers to the U.S. President or administration, not the building itself.)
The Crown will address the nation. (The Crown refers to the monarch.)
People confuse synecdoche and metonymy because they both involve substitution, but they work differently.
I’ve been seeing tweets saying it’s synecdoche and I don’t think some people understand the subtle difference. That’s where I come in.
The best way to understand them is this:
Synecdoche = inclusion (part–whole relationship).
Examples:
Hands = workers
Wheels = car
Heads = cattle or people
Metonymy = association (relationship by connection).
Examples:
Aso Rock = the Nigerian government
The Crown = the monarch
Nollywood = the Nigerian film industry
Synecdoche specifically depends on a part–whole relationship, whereas metonymy depends on any close association.
What do I mean?
Peller is known to be uneducated, so when ycee says “Peller culture,”
he is not saying Peller is literally a part of illiteracy as a whole. Instead, Peller has become associated with illiteracy because of his reputation as a known olodo.
That is metonymy.
It can only be synecdoche if Peller is presented as one member of a larger class, and the intention is for that member to stand for the entire class.
For example:
If he had said “Peller is the face of olodo culture in this country.”
Here, Peller is one individual standing for the larger group of illiterate people. Remember: part–whole representation.
So, in conclusion, “Peller culture” is best analyzed as metonymy because:
Peller’s name is being used because of its perceived association with the idea of illiteracy/glorification of mediocrity.
The name “Peller” becomes shorthand for the olodo uprising that ycee was criticizing.
He was not attacking Peller personally. Instead, he used Peller’s public image as a symbolic reference to a wider social issue. That is a metonymic use of the name.
You’re welcome.
An interesting point is that synecdoche is often treated as a subtype of metonymy because it is simply a more specific form of associative substitution.
one illiterate go jump enter road, carry marker write one stupid number for your bus, cab or bike and driver go give them money.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL NDC STAKEHOLDERS AND PARTY FAITHFULS
Dear Distinguished Leaders, Stakeholders, Members, and Supporters of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC),
We wish to inform everyone that the recent ruling of the Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja does not amount to a final determination against our party. The Court merely set aside its earlier judgment on procedural grounds, stating that all interested parties must first be heard before a final decision is made.
The Court has ordered that the substantive case commence afresh with all parties, including INEC, the Peace Movement Party (PMP), and the NDC, participating in the proceedings. This means the matter remains before the Court for determination.
We therefore urge all our stakeholders and party faithful to remain calm, united, and law-abiding. There is no cause for panic or discouragement. We have full confidence in the judicial process and believe that justice will prevail.
Let us avoid spreading misinformation or engaging in unnecessary arguments on social media. Instead, remain focused, steadfast, and committed to the ideals and vision of our great party.
Together, we shall remain strong, united, and hopeful as we await the final outcome of the Court proceedings.
Long Live NDC!
Long Live Our Democracy!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
My last word on the "olodo uprising":
You can keep on repeating to yourself, "The algorithms only show you more of what you like, so the problem is with us not with the social media platforms" as much as you like.
It won't make it true.
The algorithms are NOT neutral. You're just too delusional to accept the reality that rich, powerful people who pay billions for publicity and advertisement will never look at a technology like social media and leave it alone to be "neutral".
If you believe these platforms are neutral, then you are not different from Peller and his internet tribe. You're just an olodo with better articulation.
BREAKING: Burkina Faso Severs Diplomatic Ties With France
Burkina Faso has officially severed all diplomatic ties with its former coloniser France.
The Burkinabé government announced this in a statement released on June 26, 2026, citing France’s repeated attempts to destabilize the country.
Since cutting military and political ties with France in 2022, under the revolutionary leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso has seen rapid social, political and economic progress.
This latest move by the Burkinabé government stands as the latest reminder to the world that the days of the West interfering in Burkina Faso’s affairs are over.
Chief,
Let me tell you without mincing words.
If you burn yourself to warm others - when there's nothing else left to burn, they'll go and fetch firewood.
If you die fixing other people's problem - barely 24H after, that problem will find a new owner.
Chop people's eyes.
Delighted to Return to School of Nursing Sciences, Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State.
In continuation of my itinerant visits to educational and healthcare institutions in the country, yesterday, I visited the School of Nursing Sciences, Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku, where I met with the management, staff, and students, and presented a donation of ₦15 million to the institution.
I reminded the students that the world needs them more than they need the world because healthcare is one of humanity’s most fundamental needs. Any nation that truly desires development must invest in the education and training of healthcare professionals, who remain indispensable to the well-being and productivity of society.
I was delighted to inspect the computer laboratory, which I had previously supported, and to witness the remarkable progress the institution has made. It was also encouraging to reflect on other health institutions, such as Iyi-Enu and Borromeo, which I supported over the years and which have now grown into teaching hospitals. Their transformation reinforces my belief that sustained investments in health and education can produce enduring results. I look forward to seeing Holy Rosary Hospital attain the same status.
Our vision must be to build a Nigeria where functional institutions produce competent professionals, where investments are directed to critical sectors that lift people out of poverty, and where every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to succeed. That is how we will build a nation where the son of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.
A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
Most people only respect risk after it pays.
Before that, they call it gambling, delusion, irresponsibility, luck.
Then suddenly they want the blueprint.
Mind you, everything he says here is exactly what the IMF and the powers that control it want for every resource-rich country outside of the Imperial North.
The idea of Nigerians benefiting from Nigeria’s resources is what he’s describing as cheap fuel, cheap energy, and cheap dollars. The alternative is that these resources serve global capitalist vultures, which is exactly the case now.
He doesn't know this because people like him never think independently. Everything they know is what they have been told by the books, the journals and think-tank-powered peer reviews they have been exposed to. As long as they can deliver this in fancy English, Nigerians will cannsider them intelligent.
