At approx. 11:11 this morning, we received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting black smoke coming from a single family home in the 2700 block of Heatherlyn Cres. Upon arrival, Firefighters confirmed black smoke coming from the roof vents of the home and flames coming from a basement window at the back of the home. Firefighters began a fast attack by applying water from the exterior through the basement window. A secondary crew began searching the home for any occupants. An exclusion zone on the first floor was set up to keep Firefighters off due to the risk of the floor collapsing. At 11:46, Firefighters completed two full searches of the home and confirmed there were no occupants inside. The fire was declared under control at 12:08. Firefighters pulled down parts of the basement ceiling to confirm all hot spots were extinguished to prevent any flare ups. An @OttFire investigator was dispatched to the scene  to determine the cause and origin of the fire. #OttNews
