James Franco says he quit alcohol at 17 but spent the next 20 years battling sex and love addiction.
Franco says getting sober didn't end his addictive behavior, it simply shifted to something else.
He became obsessed with success, validation, and relationships, believing they would finally make him happy.

He says reading it was a turning point.
