@thinkoutloud82@Ariellamom@presidentnickie@ColinDMello The Feds too have put quota tarrifs on imported steel from example China. They are trying. However we do need a deal though. So provincial MPs need to stop poking the bear and the Feds need to get a deal.
@JayTheMechanik@ColinDMello This isn't a political fault. It's just a contract being broke. Stelco was selling. Government attempted to save jobs. Cleveland Cliff literally exploded. Operations had to switch at stelco to slab creation for the states plant. They weren't making money.
@Ariellamom@presidentnickie@thinkoutloud82@ColinDMello It's not a failure on the Governments side. Stelco was going to be sold no matter what. They got jobs extended that were going to be lost. Stelco was leaving in 2029 in the agreement..But with Cleveland Cliffs LITERALLY exploded.. their company had to shift operations with slabs
@CCknockout@CTVNews We do have to wait for Trump to leave. Not just midterms. Stelco leaving feels like a sudden thing but it absolutely wasn't. If the explosion at the Cleveland Cliffs plant didn't happen, most likely would have continued till 2029. That 15b steel factory is nothing.
@ograndinetti72@CTVNews Exactly. They fucked themselves. Plus Stelco was already going to close. The purchase was for contracts and they were going to close in 2029 anyways. The Cleveland Cliff explosion sped up the process, since Stelcos operation turned into just Slabs.
@JayTheMechanik@ColinDMello Cleveland Cliffs bought Stelco knowing they were going to close Stelco and take the contracts. It's why they "promised" to keep it open till 2029. Was already going to happen and Clevalnd Cliffs explosion just sped up the process.
@dpmont0407@ColinDMello Stelco would've been fine to sell and continue. It's just a chain of events really. Cleveland Cliffs explosion destroyed their ability to create Slabs. So that became Stelcos main objective to supply themselves. Then Tarrifs on those Slabs. They were leaving in 2029 anyways.
@presidentnickie@thinkoutloud82@Ariellamom@ColinDMello Approval for the sale was given by the Feds in 2024. However he has the company wrong. Anyone that blames Harper for the sale is thinking of Dofasco., not Stelco.
@DoyonSteve70619@ColinDMello Nah. It's more like offering contracts of future business. However after the Cleveland Cliffs explosion, Stelcos business shifted to assisting them with Slab creation. They were already leaving in 2029, their companies literal explosion just moved it faster.
@ColinDMello Stelco has been planning this... When Cleveland Cliffs explosion happened it shifted their operations to Slabs. Then they were having to ship those Slabs and were hit with Tarrifs on the Slabs.
So... Really...they're just fucked right up, and were already going to leave.
