Has anyone heard of William Cummins of Newcastle? I have a roast beef carving knife with a 13" blade and an antler handle. The blade is rounded at the tip. Also stamped on the blade are a C, 2 + - one above the other and an X. So C + X. No luck with Google so far.

@AwfyPuggled Jim, my apologies. I should have updated the original post. After cleaning the area around the name which had some black staining, it turns out that his name was William Cumming. Some G/S confusion on my part. Grok thinks he might have been a retailer in Newcastle Upon Tyne?

@lagomsensei Following this post I spent almost 2 hours tweaking my descriptions in response to AI. I learned it was an unusual length, bespoke and likely made for a wealthy patron. Early to mid 19th C. Cummins was probably a retailer. Forgot to reply earlier. 😊

@overlandertheb1 Oh very good. 🤣 He's the maker. I've sussed that there's a William Cummins of Dublin who was a silversmith in the early 1800's. But there's no direct connection with either cutlery or Newcastle - so far.

As a rule I don't watch cop shows. I watched Hill Street Blues in the 80's but that was an exceptional series. I stumbled upon some clips from Mindhunter and after watching the first episode became hooked. I'm now on Ep 4 and can recommend.

@plyons45 Now that's one of the reasons I don't read newspapers. On TikTok there are 'Foundational Black Americans' claiming the Picts were black. They discovered there were Scottish black folk and that really set them off. 🤣
