@SamaHoole “Melanoma sometimes occurs where sunlight doesn't reach” no more disproves UV as a cause than “non-smokers get lung cancer” disproves cigarettes as a cause. Cancer is multifactorial. You're presenting exceptions to one causal pathway as evidence that the pathway doesn't exist

@neco_arctic That's anthropomorphising the effects of hormone therapy. Transition can profoundly change phenotype and reproductive function, but “intended reproductive sex” isn't a biological category. I can respect your identity and rights without redefining the underlying biology.

@neco_arctic I respect trans people and support their right to live with dignity and equality. But respect doesn't require us to accept every claim about biology. I can respect you, support your rights, and still acknowledge what the science says about biological sex.

@neco_arctic Your sex-associated phenotype may have changed. That isn't the same claim as your biological sex changing. Hormones can modify phenotype; they don't create the opposite reproductive system. You're treating the conclusion as though it's contained in the premise.

@SamaHoole Melanoma increased. Seed-oil consumption increased. That’s correlation, not causation. UV is a proven carcinogen; seed oils causing the melanoma epidemic isn’t established. And “carnivores in my inbox” isn’t a clinical trial. Interesting hypothesis ≠ scientific fact.

@stopvaccinating Homeopathy, vaccination and widespread use of the guillotine all emerged within a few years of each other. Smallpox subsequently disappeared. I think we've been overlooking the guillotine's contribution to public health.

@colormeboldly My parents protected me from diseases that once killed or permanently disabled enormous numbers of children, and I've done the same for mine. I looked at the evidence rather than Facebook memes. That's why my children are vaccinated and will live longer than yours

@stopvaccinating @DrNeilStone Some doctors opposed vaccination. Other doctors thought handwashing was nonsense. History isn't decided by counting opinions from 1850; it's decided by what subsequently happened. Smallpox was eradicated.
