Beware the leaven of Herod, Pharisees, and Sadducees

Leaven is an unseen pervasiveness, something that affects subliminally but warrants a reaction.

An all pervasive effect on something else.

And there are three types~

Pharisees would be seen as those who cared most for seemingly holy living. Creating for themselves unwritten traditions where they observe the law (and their fences they made for themselves & others) yet neglect true love. They added to the written scriptures.
They had little interest or sway in politics or government and cared more for legalism. A licentiousness, a perceived righteousness that manifests as a show of pride in preaching and observance but not in correct practice. - ~HYPOCRISY

Sadducees would be seen as the ruling priestly establishment and as those who subtract from the written scriptures as they only regarded the Books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy) and did not regard the Prophets, the Psalms, or any of the wisdom literature (Job, Song of Solomon, Ecclesiastes & Proverbs) They also did not believe in the afterlife, angels or the supernatural. A very worldly and corrupt ruling class.

Then there’s Herod. Herod the Great was the one who when at around the time of Jesus’ birth sent an edict out to slay all male infants under 2 near and around Bethlehem, where they fled to Egypt for a time until his death.
The Herod after is his son who beheaded John the Baptist (Jesus’ cousin). John the Baptist condemned Herod and Herodias for their relationship as she was his half brother’s ex wife and in Jewish law it was forbidden, also he was not dead. So he was put in prison and wasn’t killed for fear of the Jews until his wife influenced her daughter to ensnare him into a request to have him beheaded and brought on a platter.
There’s also the Herodians which were Jews who adhered to his reign for supposed stability and peace.

I think it needs to be said that the devil is real, and not a result of sin, or of men's imagination. The devil is a real entity, the demons are actual spiritual entities. They are not the source of evil, but they are the conduit. Our decision to sin is the cause of evil. Our decision to entertain the demons for earthly gain is the cause of evil. The devils and demons, of course, tempt us to sin, but they cannot force us to sin. We are making that decision. To blame everything on the demons or the devil is to rid yourself of accountability, to say the demons and devil don't exist is to think too important of yourself.
