A Lost Chapter Finally Restored
Following his iconic years as one quarter of The Monkees, Davy Jones embarked on a remarkable solo journey, one that revealed new shades of his artistry, charm, and musical curiosity. Music and Memories: The MGM Recordings gathers for the first time on CD Jones’s rare and long-out-of-print singles for MGM Records, alongside selections from his starring role as Oblio in the London stage production of Harry Nilsson’s The Point.
Recorded between 1972 and 1978, these tracks capture Davy at a creative crossroads—fresh from Monkeemania yet eager to prove himself as a versatile performer. Collaborating with producers Tony Scotti and Tommy Oliver, Jones delivered heartfelt interpretations of songs by Gilbert O’Sullivan (“Who Was It?”), Peter Skellern (“You’re A Lady”), and Alan O’Day (“Rubberene”), each infused with the warmth and wit that defined his work. His performances from The Point—including “Life Line”, and the buoyant duet “Gotta Get Up” with Micky Dolenz, spotlight his theatrical flair. Though brief, Davy’s MGM tenure showcased his range as a singer and storyteller, bridging the exuberance of the 1960s with the reflective maturity of the years that followed. Many of the recordings included here were last heard only on a Japan-exclusive compilation in 1981; this newly remastered collection restores them to their rightful place in his discography.
Music and Memories: The MGM Recordings stands a celebration of Davy Jones, whose optimism, humour, and unmistakable voice continue to resonate more than fifty years on. The CD is released on November 14th by 7A Records.

The Album
20 years after 1970’s anthemic “In the Summertime” became an international chart-topper and sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide, Mungo Jerry’s Ray Dorset was enjoying his creative freedom. In 1990, he sensed the time was right for a new recording project. The result was Snakebite, one of the most visceral and exciting albums in the Mungo Jerry discography. Snakebite first appeared in 1990 in the U.K. on the BBC Prestige Records label. 7A Records have remastered the recordings and expanded it with seven bonus tracks. Released On August 18th, the CD version includes a 24 page colour booklet with rare photos, lyrics and extensive liner notes. The vinyl version is pressed on 180g Blue Vinyl and is limited to 300 copies. It includes a 12” colour insert.
The album received much critical acclaim upon its release and quickly became a fan favourite. Ray Dorset credits Snakebite’s varied feel for the album’s endurance. “I think Snakebite still sounds fresh because it’s not like any one style of music won out all the way through. I always try to integrate a certain level of spontaneity and dynamics in the recording studio. It’s got that live feel, and the lyrics have good stories and are interesting. I think you could go back and listen to it and say, ‘That sounds like it was recorded a couple of weeks ago.’ They’re good songs. I could play them onstage now, and 30-odd years later, they would still sound as fresh as ever.”
