PHX didn’t have an issue “paying him.” They were willing to do a 4 year max, just didn’t want a 5 year max because that limits bringing in another rookie-max player. PHX wanted to remain flexible. PHX will either match any offer sheet and keep him, or get something for him in a sign-and-trade. Jerami Grant is gonna have to be a moving piece if Detroit wants DA.
