Once you learn how to shop directly from China, E.g Temù or shien your wardrobe changes completely. Call me cheap I don't care I ain't rich, I don't do fraud.😭
It's knowing what to search for.
Here's my style after making plenty of mistakes.
1. T-shirts:
Skip 100% polyester unless you're buying gym wear.
Instead, search:
• 100% Cotton
• Combed Cotton
• Heavyweight Cotton
• 240-300 GSM Cotton
• Premium Cotton
• Mercerized Cotton
The heavier the GSM, the thicker and more premium the shirt usually feels.
2. Jeans:
Denim Jeans
Temu is surprisingly good for denim if you know what to search.
Search:
• Denim Jeans
• Cotton Denim
• Raw Denim
• Selvedge Denim (if available)
• 98% Cotton + 2% Elastane
• 99% Cotton
Avoid jeans with high polyester content. The more cotton, the better they'll age and feel.
3. Body-hug clothing:
Search:
• Ribbed Knit
• Modal
• Viscose Blend
• Cotton-Spandex Blend
They hold their shape much better than cheap polyester.
4. Hoodies
Search:
• 400 GSM
• French Terry
• Cotton Fleece
• Heavyweight Hoodie
5. Chains
Search:
• 316L Stainless Steel
• Titanium Steel
• PVD Gold Plated
• Vacuum Plated
These are far more resistant to fading than ordinary fashion jewelry.
6. Earrings
Search:
• 925 Sterling Silver
• 316L Stainless Steel
• Hypoallergenic
• Moissanite (if you're buying stones)
7. Scarves
Search:
• Mulberry Silk
• Silk Blend
• Cashmere Blend
• Wool Blend
• Viscose
Avoid the shiny, thin polyester scarves if you're after a premium look.
8. Loafers
Search:
• Genuine Leather
• Cow Leather
• Full Grain Leather (rare but worth looking for)
• Rubber Outsole
9. Sneakers
Search:
• Rubber Outsole
• EVA Midsole
• Breathable Mesh
• Leather Upper
• Stitched Sole
Pictures lie a lot
The description usually tells the truth.
Here's how I shop:
1. Read the material composition before anything else.
2. Sort by Most Orders or Best Selling, not cheapest.
3. Only buy products with lots of reviews or pictures or even better when a Nigerian has purchased it before they always tell the truth.
4. Read the 1-star reviews first. They'll tell you what the seller won't.
5. Look at customer photos, not the product photos.
6. Check the weight of the product. Better quality clothing is often heavier.
7. Read the size chart. Don't assume your Nigerian size matches.
8. If the title has words like "luxury," "premium," or "designer" but the material is 100% polyester, not everything but still move on.
Your best friend isn't the product picture.
It's the material, the reviews, and the customer photos.
That's how you separate the gems from the junk.
I hope this help.
Things are to expensive for a country this poor.
Things are happening in this Lagos o and it’s unfair to law abiding citizens. If you don’t mix with people, you won’t hear things.
Between Ketu and Mile 12, these boys snatch phones inside traffic. They jump to snatch phones inside BRT. They pickpocket at Mile 12 and Ketu. If you try to hustle bus to Ikorodu thinking you are struggling with fellow passengers, phones ti lor.
Some days ago, two women were pickpocketed at Mile 12 losing 3 phones while rushing bus. Two iPhone 12 pro and one 13 pro max. They didn’t even know until one was looking for hers and told the other to switch on her phone torch for her 😭😭
Thank God, they got to the area and the tracking started. Someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows someone helped them to enter Mile 12 deepest home of bad boys. They paid 20 for connection and they were to pay 50k each on the phones if they can find it.
This is no joke, over 50 phones were brought out. Over 50 iPhones and theirs were not even there. The bad guys had to agree that it’s another sect that carried out the operation and their phones should already be in Mushin. They had to reach out to the buyer from Mushin who tried but from the many phones with him, none belonged to them. He already told them he will only release each phone at 100k. Certainly, the phones were in the hands of another sect.
The crime ring is very deep. These boys have buyers who will sell the phones in pieces. While they were still inside the lungu, boys came in with iPhone 13 and 15 pro max that they just snatched. Another victim 😭.
These boys are everywhere. Mushin, Ikorodu Garage, Mile 12, Ketu, Mile 2, Alakija, Oshodi, everywhere but they have standby buyers.
We don’t have government who will help us. They do all these in front of Mile 12 police station and nobody will do anything.
Be security conscious because you have no one. Hold your phone in your hand when you struggle for bus. 🙏🙏
Did you know Jacob was buried with Leah, not Rachel? Not the woman he loved. Not the one he cried for. Not the one he labored fourteen years to have. Leah. In Genesis 49:29–31, when Jacob was about to die, he gave a clear instruction: “Bury me… in the cave… where Abraham and Sarah are… Isaac and Rebekah… and there I buried Leah.” Pause. Rachel was his passion. Leah was his alignment. Rachel was the love story. Leah was the covenant story. Rachel had his emotions.
Leah carried the promise. Rachel was buried on the roadside (Genesis 35:19). Leah was laid in the ancestral grave of covenant the lineage of God’s dealings. And here is the mystery: Leah was the rejected one. The one Jacob didn’t choose. The one he endured, not desired. But heaven chose her. From Leah came Judah. From Judah came Jesus Christ. Let that settle in your spirit The woman rejected by a man became central to God’s redemptive plan. This is where many people miss it:
We are all trying to be “Rachel”seen, desired, celebrated. But God builds legacy through “Leah seasons”And that is the gospel pattern: God does not build His purposes on human preference. He builds on grace and election. So if you feel overlooked… if you feel like second choice…
if life has not chosen you first— hear this clearly: God’s choice overrides man’s rejection... if you’re in your Leah season you are being written into something bigger.
Amen
Attention Please!!! Something just happened right now and it's not a good thing. I am disappointed and very angry right now.
I was in a restaurant having lunch, and two female nurses walked in wearing their uniforms.
They sat down at the table behind my back. Ordered for food they were taking back to the hospital they came from.
I was actually enjoying my meal until one of them asked her colleague how she was able to inject the old man that was admitted yesterday..
Her response was, "I looked for veins but I no see. I tried his second hand, I no see any veins, na so I vex give am the injection like that."
Her stvpid colleague was busy laughing..
I quickly grabbed my phone and put it in record. Acted like I was stretching my body.
Then the other of her colleague said that's what she normally does each time she didn't see a vein to put the syringe 💉.
They said other annoying things that if it was a working country, they will NEVER be allowed to work in any health-care system.
They both ended their silly conversation by saying "me I can't kill myself abeg oh"
I recorded it. When they were done talking, I saved it, and listened to it to be sure I captured that part they said those annoying things...
As they picked their food and walked out of the restaurant, I slowly monitored their movements and followed them to the hospital where they were employed.. It was not even far from the restaurant.
As they were going upstairs, I walked in and respectfully called the two of them. Then I asked to see their boss, they called him and I reported the two of them to him. I played the record I had and threatened him to either sack them or I will report the hospital to the government since it's a private hospital..
I don't care about what you will call it. I know some of you will say I'm wicked because I asked for them to be sacked, but you see that thing they said? It's unprofessional and they are being nonchalant with people's lives..
You don't just insert a syringe 💉 anywhere you wish to.
The trigger has been removed.
The person causing the stress has left their lives. This reduces cortisol and it’s easier for her to stop stress eating amongst other things.
You people underestimate the effect a ‘bad’ partner can have on a person.
it’s because due to patriarchy, women don’t know how to objectively be lovers without letting it consume their individuality and identity. men are inherently selfish so even when they are lovers they keep their identity, women turn male centered or “my man” centered and it literally never works out, hence the embarrassment.
For 8 straight months, everyone in my compound believed our landlord's 24 year old daughter, Simi, was a high class runs girl 👀
Every single night at exactly 9:45 PM, she'd leave the house, enter a Bolt, and never return until around 6 AM.
What we discovered last week left all of us in tears 😭 😭
Our landlord, Baba Segun, a retired civil servant, was one of the kindest men I've ever met. Despite inflation, he hadn't increased our rent in four years.
He’d always say, "Country hard, make we no suffocate each other." We all loved and respected him.
But his daughter, Simi, was the compound topic.
During the day, she was always sleeping, looking exhausted and withdrawn.
But by night? She would dress up, spray nice perfume, and a ride would come pick her up. By morning, she’d return, looking completely drained.
You know how compound life is in Nigeria. The gossip started by the water pumping machine.
"Look at her eyes, she no dey sleep," Iya Favour would whisper.
"Baba is forming strict, but his daughter is doing night hustle," another neighbor would add.
Slowly, we all began to judge her. We even started giving her attitude when she came out to the compound.
She’d just smile weakly, say "Good morning ma," and quickly go back inside.
Fast forward to last Thursday. One of our neighbors, Bro Chuks, who drives Bolt at night to make extra cash, got a ride request from an industrial estate in Ikeja. It was a massive 24/7 plastics manufacturing factory.
When he parked, he watched the factory workers coming out from their night shift. They were covered in dust, wearing heavy boots, and looking physically broken. And right there, dragging her tired feet towards his car, was Simi.
Bro Chuks was shocked. Simi? What are you doing here?
She froze.
When she realized it was him, she broke down in tears right there in the parking lot and begged him not to tell anyone, especially her dad.
Simi confessed that her dad’s glaucoma had gotten terribly worse. He needed urgent eye surgery that cost ₦2.5 million.
His government pension hadn't been paid in over two years.
Extended family had advised him to double our rent to raise the money, but Baba Segun bluntly refused, saying it was wicked to punish his tenants for his health problems.
To save her father from going entirely blind without forcing him to compromise his values, Simi quietly took a grueling night shift job at the factory.
The makeup and perfume she wore when leaving the compound? It was just a cover up so her nearly blind father wouldn't suspect she was going out to do hard labor.
When Bro Chuks shared this on our compound WhatsApp group the next morning, the silence was deafening.
Iya Favour, who started most of the gossip, actually came out to the corridor, sat on the floor, and started crying.
We were all enjoying cheap rent, saved by the kindness of a man whose daughter was secretly breaking her back in a factory just to keep him healthy.
And how did we repay her? With wicked gossip and judgment.
That weekend, all the tenants called a meeting. We voluntarily agreed to a 30% rent increase and raised ₦800k on the spot to support Baba Segun's surgery.
Baba cried. Simi cried. We cried.
It taught me a brutal, unforgettable lesson: Never judge someone when you don’t know the battles they are fighting in secret.
The person you’re pointing fingers at might just be carrying a burden you couldn't even lift.
Has there ever been a time you completely misjudged someone, only to discover you were completely wrong?
I'd genuinely love to hear your story. Share it in the replies. Someone else might learn from it too.

Kenneth Okonkwo said if OBIdients insults him on social media, that he will release dossier that will end Peter Obi's political carrier.
Obidients amplified the insult, as though that wasn't enough. Mr. Obi himself went to Rufai Oseni's podcast and asked Kenneth Okonkwo to release any record he had about him, even from primary school.
He also went further to say that if anyone could bring out any evidence of corruption against him, he would stop campaigning. That's audacity!
That's why many of us support him blindly.
Girl to girl: be that girl again.
Get disciplined again. Take care of yourself again. Eat better & move your body again. Oil your edges & drink your water again. Start praying & reading your Bible again. Get your money up and sleep 8 hours again. Find your spark and put yourself first.
If a vendor posts an iPhone on his status, and types 'IBM', 'IDM, 'ICM', or 'Mint', just know you have to be very careful.
They'll usually not explain to you except you ask.
Such phones are usually cheaper, so you think you're getting a good deal. But what you don't know is that you might be buying a problem.
Those coded expressions are used as a gimmick, since the vendors just assume that you already know the meaning.
The first three mean that the iPhone has issues, while the last one means that the iPhone isn't exactly UK-used.
Specifically...
IBM means Important Battery Message, suggesting that the battery is faulty.
ICM means Important Camera Message: camera problems.
IDM means Important Display Message: screen issues.
As for MINT, although some vendors will disagree....
When certain vendors say an iPhone is MINT, it usually means that it is more like Nigerian-used.
However, note that MINT doesn't necessarily mean the phone is faulty. It just means it was last used by a Nigerian customer. And it's usually cheaper than the ones they call UK-used.
