The whole political system in the uk is a shambles and needs an overhaul with new regs in place. If businesses were run like Governments try to run our country, they wouldn’t last 5 mins.
1) In PMQ’s, the PM should answer the question and they should not have prior knowledge of it. It should be done off the cuff. If I’m asked a question about my farm I don’t read the answer from a file.
2) Any political party should be made to stick to their pre election Manifesto. Saying they are going to do things if they win but no intention of doing said things, should not be an option.
A rare watch in modern politics; a principled stand. And how much easier to watch than the usual evasion.
Government scores another own goal by suspending the whip & creating a news cycle on an issue it keeps trying to bury but that keeps burning through political capital.
You don’t have to be a Tory to be disgusted by this devastating mash-up of Labour Party leaders lying through their back teeth about tax so they could win power.
Analysis by Land App showing where 4,520 CS Mid-Tier farm environmental schemes covering >51,000ha arable land expire on 31st Dec due to government’s suspension of SFI.
Decades of taxpayer investment in nature to be erased while ministers ponder.

Since it's conference season, here's a scene from the 2023 @NFUtweets conference when @Keir_Starmer came into the press room after addressing farmers at the conference. Here's a brief reminder of what he told farmers - enjoy 🧵(1/7)
With badgers already proven to have TB on their land, I guess it was just a matter of time. Devastating news, but something that's mirrored throughout the farming community day-in, day-out. Badgers need controlling, it's as simple as that.
We’re in the same boat Tom, heard nothing from @Ruralpay on any hint of roll over, fallow plots for #lapwing, #skylark plots, rare arable flower margins, wild birds food mix, pollen and nectar etc- all under threat of going. 25years of stewardship 🤯
Why?
Because it’s about protecting the job of one person over the generations of livelihoods and hard graft of tens of thousands who day in day out produce your food.

Absolute rubbish @SteveReedMP You slashed the delinked payments last year by 76 % and have capped this years payment at £600. The SFI is now a shadow of its former self to new applicants, taxed pick up trucks and fertiliser, increased NI, got rid of the market for 2m tons of wheat because of the trade deal with US and imported ethanol, the list goes on. And only yesterday we hear that when our food runs out, you say it can be imported. If that’s your way of support, I’d hate to see your list for when you don’t want to support farming.
Unhelpfully for UK farmers - and the Prime Minister - the USA says at the ongoing press conference that the trade deal will "exponentially increase export of US beef" to the UK.
