This account is the official X account for the I'ts Time campaign.

Violence against women and girls in Scotland is a public emergency.

Nearly 200 women have been killed by men in Scotland in 16 years. Already 7 have been killed this year. Tens of thousands of domestic abuse incidents are reported annually, and that is only a fraction of what actually happens. Most abuse never reaches the police. Home is often the most dangerous place a woman can be.

@Sunday_Post put faces to those names in 2025. The response to it was overwhelming, survivors, families, politicians, employers, sportspeople, musicians, writers and campaigners all said the same thing. Enough.

It’s Time exists to turn that moment into lasting change.

VAWG is not inevitable. It is learned, tolerated and excused. The campaign exists to make misogyny as socially unacceptable as drink-driving. It will do this through a workplace charter, emergency support for women fleeing danger, pressure on government and public services, and a whole-of-society effort that includes men.

This account is here to keep the facts visible, amplify survivors and partners, and refuse to let the issue drop off the agenda.

“The Sunday Post’s It’s Time campaign is already pushing forward change, with the Scottish Government announcing a raft of new proposals to deter abusers and protect victims.

First Minister John Swinney met with It’s Time and victims minutes before announcing to parliament on Tuesday that the government will permanently finance the two million pounds a year Fund To Leave, helping families to flee violence.

The government will trial using GPS trackers to monitor abusers out on bail in Fife and Tayside.”

Legal protections for women experiencing domestic abuse from a partner or ex partner

Child contact does not mean you have to accept abuse, harassment or intimidation from an ex-partner.

In Scotland, there are legal protections that may help.

Depending on your circumstances, these can include:

⚖️ An interdict: a court order that can prohibit someone from doing certain things, such as contacting you or coming near you.

⚖️ A non-harassment order: which can prevent unwanted behaviour that causes harm, alarm, distress or fear.

🏠 An exclusion order: which can suspend an abusive partner or ex-partner’s right to live in the family home.

The right option depends on your circumstances and the level of risk.

If you are considering a protective order, speak to a solicitor about your situation. Legal aid may be available.

And remember: you do not have to wait for things to get worse before seeking advice.

This system can save lives and, every day it is not in place, we are putting women and girls in danger.
John Swinney rightly understands the need to tackle the epidemic in violence against women. But if we don't move beyond warm words, then we will be failing Scotland's women. It's time to put Scotland's women first.”
