@lunaronin777 No, this is not done with prefabs. I am writing a new system to allow for a lot of control in how biomes are placed, in the form of a new kind of WorldStructure asset. The image-loading is one of the ways that you can use to define how biomes are placed in my mod.
I just submitted my entry to the Hytale New Worlds modding contest! It was put together in only 4 days, but I am still super happy with the results! The mod will be available on CurseForge soon!

@Prowl8413 I have mostly been working on developing tech for my Worldgen Additions mod rather than making biomes/worlds, but I have still gotten some really nice results!
@ReeskShrider Unfortunately these are not part of an upcoming mod at this time, this was more of an experiment/learning opportunity than something I intended to release in its current form. I definitely want to improve upon these techniques and use them in a mod for the future, though!
I've done some improvements to the Erosion filter from my last tweet, and I experimented around with painting the landscape with different stone types and snow here.
