26 December 1931 | Hungarian Jewish woman, Eva Kerenyi, was born in Debrecen.
She was an only child to a well-to-do family. Her father was a lawyer, and her mother was a doctor.
She was deported to #Auschwitz and later transferred to Ravensbrück. She wasiberated by the Soviet army while on a death march.
On 7 September 1945, Eva returned to Hungary, where she and her mother lived with her maternal randparents. Her father and many other family members did not survive the war.
Eva completed her nursing degree and worked as a nurse until October 1956, when the Hungarian Revolution broke out. She was forced to forgo her acceptance to medical school.
Eva resettled in Halifax with her future husband, Norbert Kerenyi, a doctor. Eva and her husband moved to Toronto in 1972
