Some things I've changed my mind about over the years:
1) Its important to memorize facts (math, history, etc.)
Theres an idea that having kids memorize facts is a waste of time and to some extent this is true
But to do any form of analysis, critical thinking, etc. --> a kid needs to have a foundation of facts to base their analysis/critical thinking on
Also, to advance in any subject (math in particular), facts have to be memorized
2) I don't think you can directly teach critical thinking
I'm yet to see anything convincing on how this can be done systematically --> I'm not implying it doesn't exist - I just haven't seen it so if someone has good resources please share
Nonetheless, in my experience, improved critical thinking comes when a kid knows more information (partly why #1 is important), practices using that information, sees a teacher model critical/analytical thinking then practices it themself, is having a lot of meaningful discussions, and reads a lot
3) Fidget spinners are BS
Maybe there are rare situations where they can help kids but in my experience kids just get distracted by them, break them, toss them around the room, and they do more harm than good
4) Tests are good
Tests often get used as an end all to be all but when they are used as a simple measure of what a kid knows and doesn't - thats incredibly important
Being soft on behaviour isn't going to help students. It will simply allow a small number of students to be in charge rather than the adults who must be. I've seen that and it's a scary and unsafe place. And no it doesn't mean ignoring needs either. Do both.
This is true. I think of my grandparents, poor as church mice, having kids in the Great Depression, because that's what you did. I think this "ohhh, it's too expensive to have kids" is a story we tell ourselves.
Modern wisdom tells us to follow our hearts, but Jeremiah 17:9 warns that the heart is deceptive. Proverbs 3:6 offers a better way: acknowledge Him. When we submit our intuitions to His Word, He straightens our paths. Guidance is found in obedience, not just introspection.
The Velveteen Rabbit wants to be a “real” rabbit. Pinocchio wants to be a “real” boy. The Little Mermaid wants to be a “real” woman. These stories are a good reminder that “being real” isn’t always easy and it sometimes comes with pain and suffering, but it’s the only way to truly experience life.
These stories are more important than ever to read and share with children. They are growing up in an age that worships so many artificial things. Teach them the beauty and value of the “real”things.

If you want to improve your vocabulary, read great books.
If you want to improve your writing, read great books.

Stories have villains for a reason.
A child who can’t identify evil is a child who can’t resist it.
“Misunderstood” is starting to sound a lot like “ignore what your gut is telling you.”
"Take care of your body as if you were going to live forever; and take care of your soul as if you were going to die tomorrow."
~ St. Augustine of Hippo
Christian identity is not achieved but received. In the economy of grace, our identity is anchored in the person of Christ rather than our personal performance or history. To be "in Christ" means your standing before the Father is as secure as the Son's own righteousness.
•Homosexuality is sin, not love
•Transgenderism is deceit, not truth
•Abortion is murder, not medicine
•The Bible is truth, not myth
•Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven, not your good works
Reminder: Jesus was very patient and gentle with sinners who acknowledged their own shortcomings.
But He had a special kind of wrath and spoke harshly to people who wore religion like a skin suit with zero internal transformation.
🚨 America doesn’t have a fertility problem it has an abortion problem.
