Just a quick note on how BBC News verifies deaths in order to report them
Yesterday I was assigned the death of online star Lil Tay
A statement on her Instagram page said she, along with her brother, had died
I contacted her management to double check it was true

The North Atlantic SST anomaly on June 8 was 1.04°C above the 1982-2023 mean.
For those keeping track, that's 3.56σ, or 1-in-5400.
The BBC management really have done an own-goal and politicised BBC Sport.
The thing is, Gary Lineker didn't even break editorial guidelines. The guidelines even give an example of a Sport presenter expressing views on politics being low risk. https://t.co/v4L0uD8rTo
🎉Happy Birthday @BBC on your 100th birthday! When you were founded we had a King, no one knew if they could afford to put their heating on and we'd just lived through a global pandemic. Times really do change!
This kind of thing gets circulated on internal email but rarely heard about outside the BBC. We should make much more of a song and dance about this and similar projects.

"Why won't you publish Yellowhammer?"
"Because if we do, we won't get Brexit."
"Why not?"
"The impacts are so awful, the public would tell us not to do it."
"So why are you doing it?"
"Because it's what the public wants."
