As an upper-caste Indian, I support equality, but what about cases where an SC/ST law is allegedly misused against someone who hasn't discriminated against anyone?

Should a person's caste determine who is believed and who is automatically treated as guilty?

SC/ST communities should never have had to fight for the equality they were entitled to from birth.

Caste hierarchy is one of the most poisonous ideas India has carried for centuries: judging human beings by the family they were born into.

And when Hindutva politics is used to defend, excuse or deepen that hierarchy, it becomes even more dangerous for social equality.

A country cannot call itself truly developed while millions are still expected to accept inequality as their place in society.

No caste privilege. No birth-based hierarchy. No religious justification for discrimination.

India needs equal citizens, not a society divided by birth.

BENGAL HAS ENTERED A DEEPLY DISTURBING CHAPTER.

What unfolded today was not merely an episode of political confrontation - it was a profoundly disturbing spectacle of violence, intimidation and institutional failure.

Thousands of our workers and supporters have, over time, faced assaults, threats, intimidation and physical violence. Yet what is perhaps even more alarming is the apparent indifference of those entrusted with the solemn responsibility of maintaining law and order!

Today, Humayun Kabir, a former IPS officer, was BRUTALLY ASSAULTED outside a POLICE STATION, even as the violence unfolded in full public view. When an attack can take place at the very doorstep of the institution meant to protect citizens, it raises an unbearable question: WHO, THEN, IS LEFT TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE?

Earlier in the day, our party workers were subjected to violent attacks while participating in a peaceful march. Several sustained serious injuries. Behind every injury is a human being, a family, and a trauma that does not disappear.

And then there is the horrifying ordeal of Upasana Chowdhury, who has repeatedly found herself at the receiving end of political violence. Her clothes were torn, her vehicle damaged and her residence pelted with heavy stones while her elderly parents were inside. Her father, a cerebral-stroke patient, remains deeply traumatised by what happened.

What kind of political culture are we creating when violence is unleashed against people in the presence of their families? What kind of administration allows citizens to feel that they are more vulnerable in their own homes than anywhere else?

Let this be absolutely clear: POLITICAL DIFFERENCES CANNOT BECOME A LICENCE FOR POLITICAL VIOLENCE.

There must be NO IMPUNITY, NO SELECTIVE SILENCE AND NO POLITICAL SHIELDING for anyone responsible for violence.

The West Bengal Police and the administration have a constitutional and moral obligation to protect every citizen, irrespective of party affiliation. Silence in the face of violence is not neutrality. When institutions fail to act against intimidation, that silence itself becomes deeply consequential.

Bengal deserves better than the politics of fear.

Bengal deserves a political culture where opponents can disagree without being assaulted, where workers can march without being attacked, where families can sleep without fear, and where the rule of law stands ABOVE political allegiance.

This is not the Bengal we should accept.

VIOLENCE MUST NOT BECOME THE LANGUAGE OF POLITICS.
INTIMIDATION MUST NOT BECOME THE CURRENCY OF POWER.
AND THE RULE OF LAW MUST NEVER BECOME A CASUALTY OF PARTISAN POLITICS.

⚠️ BENGAL, INDIA, AND THE ROT OF COMMUNAL POWER POLITICS.

What we are watching is not governance. It is the systematic conversion of the state into a tool of one ideology’s dominance.

BJP’s sanghi politics has turned communal hate into official currency. They polarise, they demonise, they poison every debate with religion, and then they act shocked when society fractures. This is not nationalism. This is a project of division dressed up as patriotism. Hindutva as practised by them is not cultural pride , it is a political weapon used to intimidate minorities, silence dissent, and keep the base permanently angry and loyal.

They abuse the power of govt without hesitation. Agencies are deployed selectively. Institutions are bent. Propaganda is pumped day and night to paint every critic as anti-national and every opponent as the enemy. when their workers face violence they scream about law and order, when violence serves their narrative they look the other way or justify it. that is not principle. That is pure power politics.

Citizens of every party & every ideology need to wake up. This is not a BJP vs TMC or BJP vs Opposition issue alone. This is about whether India remains a country where political difference is allowed, or whether one force is allowed to decide who belongs and who does not. Gandhi’s path of non-violence and constitutional resistance and Bhagat Singh’s fierce demand for justice and equality against oppression, both belong to this country’s inheritance. Using either name to excuse today’s communal hate and institutional capture is a fraud.

Silence from police, administration or judiciary when intimidation becomes routine is not neutrality. It is failure. In a democracy that failure must be called out loudly, through protest, through votes, through relentless public pressure, not through street fire or rebellion fantasies.

BJP’s hindutva project has poured venom into the national bloodstream. It has made fear and hatred profitable. It has torn the idea of a plural India for electoral gain. That project deserves to be confronted, exposed, and defeated politically, not romanticised as some holy mission.

Political differences cannot become a licence for communal hatred. Abuse of state power cannot become normal.

And the rule of law must never become the casualty of any party’s ideology, including the one currently most skilled at wrapping hate in the national flag.
