I don’t think this is a hot take at all
I may be biased as a huge horror enjoyer but here’s my argument:

It heavily depends on the movie, the person, and the intent.

Movies like:
The Human Centipede, Green Inferno, 120 Days of Sodom, Terrifier, Pink Flamingos, The Exorcist, Insidious, Hostel and perhaps even Weapons. These films are often lacking an idea and are just horror.
People that watch these are either just adding more to their watched collection or degenerates as you mentioned.

There are films that you watch for the love of the game. These films are more philosophical and eerie than just jumpscare slop:

The Ring, The Backrooms, The Silence of the Lambs and its sequels, The Shining, The Conjuring, The Village, Talk to me, The SAW franchise (excluding SAW 8 and 9), Resident Evil, Sinister 1 and 2, Midsommar, The House that Jack built, Constantine, and the original Dracula and Frankenstein.

And lastly, there are films that are not meant to be taken seriously and are just Halloween movies to watch with the family:

Five Nights at Freddy’s, Child’s Play, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scary Movie, Anabelle, It, Goosebumps, and more classic ones are not for degenerates.

Horror is one of those things that will genuinely can be very repulsive for most people so if you are trying to find a partner and you watch any of the ones that are not Halloween slop, just don’t mention it.
