The cruel part of being a Salaried person in India is that whole year you pay the income tax even before the salary hit into your account and you think that now you don't have any tax liability.

But then you file ITR and see that you've 50k as income from FD interest and on that now you've to pay not only tax but also interest for late payment of tax.

Every ITR season makes me realize one thing...

Salaried taxpayers bear the biggest tax burden.

They earn transparently through payroll, TDS is deducted before the salary even reaches them, and when it comes to filing the return, they have almost no scope to claim genuine day-to-day work-related expenses.

A professional or business owner can, subject to law, claim legitimate business expenses incurred to earn income. A salaried employee, despite spending on commuting, work essentials, upskilling, communication, and other employment-related costs, generally cannot.

Whether this is the right policy should definitely be a matter of debate. It's hard to ignore that the salaried class often has the least flexibility in the tax system while contributing significantly to direct taxes.

Just an observation after another busy ITR season. 🙏
