Four years ago I crisscrossed the city promising to hold repeat violent offenders accountable, rebuild the State’s Attorney’s office, protect our older adults, and stand up for victims of crime.
Four years later, I've held true to my word. We've delivered historic reductions in homicides and violent crime. We've held those who commit quality-of-life crimes accountable through our Citation Docket. We created a new Older Adult and Disabled Persons Unit and expanded our city's Victim and Witness Division.
We've made Baltimore safer by being "smart on crime.” We’re setting the right priorities, handing down tough but fair sentences for violent crime, and building stronger relationships with our communities.

The public deserves accountability, to know and be able to access the meaningful information about how our criminal justice system operates, and the data to highlight how the SAO is performing.
The data dashboard we launched yesterday, along with a revised SAO website, provides a quantitative look at the many facets of our work - from cases and prosecutions to outcomes and other key performance metrics - that help tell the story of public safety and accountability here in Baltimore City.

Have you, a friend and/or family member been subject to false charges being levied against you/them via the court commissioner process? If so, we want to hear from YOU!
For three years, Delegate Jackie Addison and I have been trying to change this archaic and often retaliatory system down in Annapolis. We were minutes away from passage during the last session and want lawmakers to hear from the residents of Maryland to better understand why changes to this system are necessary during this upcoming session.
Join us at Ark Church (1263 E. North Avenue) on Tuesday, Sept 29th from 6:00-8:00P to have this candid conversation with those looking to offer real solutions to the issues we face. #BuildingBridgesForABetterBaltimore #CourtCommissionerProcess #CommunityConversations
What an amazing day yesterday campaigning for our superstar State Senator Shaneka Henson and the remarkable courthouse slate in Anne Arundel County including my colleague States Attorney Anne Colt Leitess.
I was joined by roughly a dozen Baltimore City volunteers, who braved the weather to ensure the voters of this district know what an incredible job their state senator has done - and will continue to do for them. #VoteHensonForStateSenate #Election2026 #BuildingBridges #TrustTheProcess
Baltimore State’s Attorney @ivanjbates Ivan Bates & his team came all the way down to help spearhead today’s canvass, bringing fresh energy to our Senate & courthouse campaigns! Before the rain, we hit 500 doors. Grateful to Ivan for showing up strong! 💪🏾
Amazing conversation with Colin Kaepernick hosted by the amazing Tia Hamilton and Urban Reads Bookstore at a sold out Coppin State University - shoutout to Dr. Jenkins for not only opening their doors but coming through with his beautiful family.
Colin’s newly released book the Perilous Fight was well received by the young leaders gathered to hear his powerful message: The world needs each of us to be willing to Stand Up to Injustice, Sit Down or Take a Knee to show your commitment to the change we long for!
Silence is consent, so speak up today in order to effect the change you want to see tomorrow #BuildingBridgesBmore
Three years ago, Baltimore lost a tech giant who was an angel sent to us to inspire, influence and illuminate the greatness of our city.
The unfortunate circumstances that led to her demise was something that my office and I were able to help alleviate, having Delegate Elizabeth Embry introduce legislation in her name in 2024 with the passage of the Pava Marie LaPere Act, which eliminates the ability of sex offenders from obtaining diminution credits during their time of incarceration.
I will continue to fight for the rights of victims and their families, which is why I was proud to stand side-by-side with her father Frank and mother Caroline in continuing to carry on her legacy.
We're building bridges between our office and communities across Baltimore. The progress we've made in creating a safer city wouldn't be possible without neighbors like Chris Lewkovich. I'm proud to have his support.
Yesterday I was honored and blessed to host our 4th annual Older Adult luncheon, hosted by the fabulous Dr Kaye Whitehead, as we continue to celebrate those who paved the way for us to be here today!
Thank you to those who helped make this possible and to the 1.300+ participants who came through to celebrate our legacy. #BuildingBridgesForABetterBaltimore
Today, we take a moment to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the countless families, first responders, service members, and communities forever changed by that tragic day.
Twenty-five years later, the courage and selflessness demonstrated in the face of unimaginable devastation continue to inspire us. We remember the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others, many making the ultimate sacrifice.
Here in Baltimore, that spirit of service and sacrifice is deeply familiar. Every day, our first responders, law enforcement officers, prosecutors, public servants, and community members answer the call to serve others—often during their most difficult moments. September 11 reminds us never to take that commitment for granted and to honor those who dedicate their lives to protecting and strengthening our communities.
It also reminds us of the strength that emerges when we stand together. In one of our nation’s darkest moments, Americans responded with compassion, unity, and an unwavering commitment to one another. That same sense of unity is essential to the work we continue to do here in Baltimore—making our neighborhoods safer, supporting one another, and building a stronger city for future generations.
As we honor those we lost, we recommit ourselves to the values that bind us together—service, sacrifice, resilience, and community. May we never forget their lives, their bravery, or our shared responsibility to care for one another.
We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
Today I was honored to join the faculty, staff and students of Morgan States School of Social Work for a community conversation hosted by their Center for Urban Violence and Crime Reduction regarding leadership and the impact it can have on communities.
From my days in the Army, to Howard University and the College of William and Mary, to my work as both a defense attorney and prosecutor all led me to this point of being your States Attorney.
And it is those experiences that helped shape my vision for how we continue protecting our most vulnerable residents, fighting to keep our streets safe and our neighborhoods thriving. #BuildingBridgesForASaferBaltimore #PromisesMadeCommitmentsKept
