HORROR: CBS News details a serious medication error at Ascension Saint Thomas Midtown in Nashville where four patients received potassium phosphate instead of intended anesthetics like mepivacaine prior to joint replacement surgeries on August 14, 2026.

The mix-up, traced to the hospital pharmacy, left two patients paralyzed (including 72-year-old Glenda Dorton with T6-level paralysis) and at least one on a ventilator temporarily, prompting immediate care and a self-reported investigation.

Hospital CEO Dr. Shubhada Jagasia confirmed the cause was identified with corrective safeguards implemented, while Tennessee regulators and the Bureau of Investigation continue probing the incident with no other patients affected.
