What if your web app behaved like a desktop IDE...
without shipping another Electron app? 😼
**Drag. Reorder. Dock. Split. Resize. Pop out.**
Kicul is still running in the browser.
It just doesn’t have to feel like one. 🐈⬛
Day 5 of building Kicul in public.
Browser, Electron, or native?
Pick your poison. 👀

I actually gave GPUI a shot for Kicul too
Super promising, but man, that Rust learning curve is no joke.
Seeing it work with Node.js + React though? That changes the game.
I’ve fallen back to browser rendering for now, but native GPU rendering with a normal webdev workflow is exactly what we need.
Keeping a close eye on this. 🐈⬛
@pocket_js wow...this is seriously interesting.
I've tried a lot of UI frameworks for Kicul before eventually falling back to browser rendering.
You make me want to experiment again though. 😄
Waiting for a Windows build so I can properly play with it.
Rust vs C++? We chose yes. 🐈⬛
There’s been a lot of Rust vs C++ discussion lately.
Rewrite it in Rust.
Modern C++ is perfectly fine.
Memory safety.
Performance.
Ecosystem.
Compile times.
Meanwhile, while building Kicul, we ended up with a much less exciting answer:
Use both.
We use C++ compiled to WebAssembly where we want native-ish performance inside the browser, and Rust for the backend/system side.
Not because one language “won.
Because they solve different parts of the problem well.
I think developers sometimes turn programming languages into football teams. But users don't care what language won the argument. They care whether the software is fast, reliable, and works.
So for Kicul:
Rust 🤝 C++ 🤝 WASM
Now I'm curious...
If you were starting a systems-heavy developer tool today, would you go 100% Rust, 100% C++, or mix both? 🍿

Day 4/50 building Kicul. 🐈⬛
SSH Console today.
2 terminals.
Split view.
Drag to resize.
One workspace.
Because one terminal is never enough.
Something bigger is coming next week. 👀

Day 3: Kicul Dashboard is now fully draggable! Yey!!
Because we know DBAs like to move their widgets around almost as much as they like to complain about slow queries. ^_^
Sidebar is real. Layout is yours. Chaos is... well, organized now.
If you could only keep ONE widget on your main screen, what would it be? CPU? Memory? Or just a big "It’s Working" button?

Day 2 building Kicul
What if your server status looked like a GitHub contribution graph?
That's the idea I'm sketching into Kicul's dashboard today.
The app shell is real code. The dashboard? Chalk doodles. :P
Server heatmaps, DB health, backup history, alerts — one workspace.
Doodles today. Code tomorrow.
btw happy holiday

You know that dangerous dev delusion where finishing the login screen makes you feel like the whole project is basically done?
Yeah. I'm there. :))
Day 1 of building Kicul in public. Kicul is a browser-based command center for DBs, servers, SSH & backups.
Today: The front door.
Tomorrow: The actual hard work.

@pocket_js is a really interesting project to watch.
I’ve been exploring a different approach with Kicul, but I always enjoy seeing how other people rethink the JavaScript runtime and desktop app space.
Lots of good ideas here. 👀
Kicul koac v0.9.44
another build, another step forward
rust backend compiling 'not' so cleanly hehe
and the kicul infrastructure keeps growing
building kicul one module at a time

Morning activity checklist:
☕️ Coffee
⚙️ Compile C++ core to WASM
🟢 Serve it up with Node.js
🦀 Bridge it all with Rust
Now that’s what I call a happy family 🥹👨👩👧👦✨ #WebDev#WASM#RustLang#NodeJS
