49.6–50 million people were living in modern slavery at any given time in 2021 (the figure still commonly cited in 2025–2026 updates).

The rest are mainly in forced marriage.

You’ll essentially rent your devices through a subscription instead of owning them.

They’re pitching it as an “upgrade service,” but the reality is clear:

You don’t own the device.
One missed payment and you could lose access.

Klarna’s stock jumped 11% on the news.

Many believe this is preparation for much higher prices in the coming years, making ownership unaffordable for most people.

“You will own nothing and be happy.”

Except your happiness only lasts as long as the payments clear.
