While Samsung hasn't highlighted it much, this happens to be the most noteworthy upgrade on this phone. The screen uses a new Corning Gorilla Glass toughened glass, which is said to not only be more durable but also has a coating that significantly reduces screen glare.
It seems this advantage has caught Apple's eye, as the iPhone 17 may employ a similar anti-glare coating for its screen.
According to reports from MacRumors citing a Chinese leaker, Apple has purchased specialized screen coating equipment from Japan and transferred it to its supply chain in China. This coating equipment is expected to be used on future iPhone models, likely the iPhone 17 (as it's too late for the iPhone 16). Thus, the iPhone 17 lineup is expected to come with better anti-glare and scratch-resistant screens.

Apple currently uses the "Ceramic Shield" brand for its ceramic-reinforced glass screen made by Corning. The Ceramic Shield glass on the iPhone 15 series was claimed to be "tougher than any smartphone glass," but that was before Samsung used Corning Gorilla Armor glass on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Gorilla Armor performs better in drop and scratch tests (although Corning doesn't disclose the product used as a benchmark). The coating on this glass helps reduce reflections by up to 75%, improves readability, and minimizes screen glare.
The low glare capability of the Galaxy S24 Ultra helps using the phone under sunlight or other bright sources without causing annoying glare. Once you use the anti-glare screen of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, you'll start noticing screen glare becoming very apparent on other devices. There's no need to tilt the phone or shield it to view content on the Galaxy S24 Ultra screen, as the anti-glare screen combined with high brightness will suffice to keep you satisfied.

It's still unclear whether Apple can achieve similar results for the iPhone 17 or not. If it can, this will drive the smartphone industry to adopt this new screen technology more widely.
