Failure.
It is simply a part of being a leader.
The thing some leaders forget in the midst of the chaos, is that often times the amount of eventual success is proportional to the amount of risk and failure we endure along the way.

The soft bigotry of low expectations, presented as empathy, compassion, and tolerance, is a 1st order threat to our children’s education - trapping them in illiteracy and lifelong dependency.
@educator4ever36 Very limited consequences in elementary. Recess=high value. If you take 1-5 min from recess, this is effective in changing behavior. I also separate students at lunch for handsy behavior & tell them if they behave the remainder of lunch, they can go outside. Very effective.
@beauhightowerdn Unfortunately, no. All in the name of "belonging" the powers that be believe will fix education in NM. NMAA really is like UIL in Texas that includes non-athletic activities rather than an athletic association like Florida or Georgia.
@educator4ever36 I appreciate the sentiment from the parent. But no no no I would never permit this. The potential for this to go horribly wrong is astronomical. Major liability, and it's sad to have to think in those terms.
@educator4ever36 I've experienced this during the last many years I've worked in low performing schools. And it came from the people who either aren't doing their job or are doing something they shouldn't be. Working in a high performing school was completely different.
@SamStrickers181 Can measure through academic\instructional data. Previously worked for a district pushing belonging through clubs, sports, and every elective under the sun which stretched us too thin. That's not it. It's engaging EVERY kid EVERY lesson in instruction and academic success.
@tgrierhisd Robocalls don't work. Human calls get a little better result from a handful. Mostly parents are not making their kids come to school. The truancy process isn't effective because there are no consequences other than a meeting and the amount of paperwork by admin is unrealistic.
@educator4ever36 I would like to see four day weeks for students with the fifth day for planning, two weeks off between quarters, and a month off for summer. Consistent and gives teachers time to effectively plan for today's higher demands.
@educator4ever36 What is the pressure from the state to be all things to everyone in the name of mental health? Some states are still pushing SEL and tech although the research is now clear. The best strategy is to effectively teach reading and math skills so kids can have their best shot.
“The other reaction is more pragmatic: Why should we expect any sane person to tolerate working conditions like this? If we want teachers to stay, the job itself has to be made manageable and physically safe.”
