“Menstruation should never be a barrier to learning, health, participation or opportunity.” @UNICEFRepUG Robin Nady the @UNICEFUganda country Representative.
Robin also emphasized that menstrual health is not just about products it is about dignity, education, health, gender equality, WASH, accountability, and opportunity.
He called for stronger systems, sustainable financing, affordable and quality menstrual products, and collective action across government, civil society, development partners, communities, and the private sector to build a truly #PeriodFriendlyWorld where every girl and woman can participate fully and confidently.

Mr. Richard Minze from @Educ_SportsUg highlighted the Ministry’s multisectoral and holistic approach, noting that while there may not be a standalone budget line, menstrual health is integrated within broader development grants and education programming. He emphasized the need to re-strategize priorities when it comes to MHH
Ms. Petua Isabirye from the @EOC_UG emphasized emphasized that MHH must be prioritized across planning and budgeting processes. She noted that there are still gaps in accountability and tracking, as current national budget assessments lack explicit indicators to measure allocation and investment in menstrual health and hygiene management.
Angella Nansubuga from @Educ_SportsUg also highlighted key policies and guidelines supporting menstrual health, including the Education Act, policies on inclusion and violence against children in schools, the MHH Guidelines for schools and educational institutions, and the national MHH strategy implemented through a multisectoral approach. She emphasized the need for engagement from different actors at all levels, especially at the parliamentary level.

“Whenever a girl is unable to manage her menstruation with dignity, it reflects a gap in our systems and support structures. This day reminds us to acknowledge those gaps and strengthen our collective efforts toward lasting change.” @EUinUG#MHMDay2026#PeriodFriendlyWorld
Menstrual health is about dignity, equality, and opportunity. At the #MHMDay2026, the UN family, represented by Dr Robin Nandy, reaffirmed that no girl should miss school or feel excluded because of her period. Investing in menstrual health means investing in Uganda’s future.
Following the field practice held yesterday for the pre-pilot of ICAN-ICAR-ICASEL; teams are reflecting today, on what challenged them, what worked well, and what they would improve. The teams in both Yumbe and Isingiro districts will later today be flagged off to commence a household-based assessment to run for the next 3 days where children aged 5–16 in both host and refugee communities will be assessed.

What if the biggest lesson a child needs tomorrow does not begin in the classroom, but with the support we give today? Most of us had someone who encouraged us in our learning journey. Today, let us be that person for a child. A little reading, listening and encouragement can shape a lifetime of learning.
