I also want to announce that we have an amazing editorial board who will be supporting us. @LucyCWelsh and I are grateful to them for joining us and excited to go on this journey with this over the next three years...
I'm delighted to announce that @LucyCWelsh and I have taken over as editors of Common Law World Review. The journal is a forum for legal developments across the common law world. If anyone has any questions about the journal or ideas for papers, please do get in touch!
Final call for participants for my British Academy research project, The Profession and the Pandemic. If you’re in legal aid or the wider advice sector please do get in touch. We’ve had an awesome turn out but still have capacity for more. Please email me [email protected]
Our Ministry of Justice report on access to justice over the pandemic is out now. We look at the use of technology in social welfare advice, how it impacted advisers and clients, and the future for the sector. https://t.co/qA6w47VZFq
The results of the first ever #LegalAidCensus are now available. We’re super proud of this piece of research for the insight it gives into legal aid in England and Wales - such a vital part of access to justice. It’s sobering reading but we hope it can drive change!
Experiences of Criminal Justice is out TODAY! I’m so excited for this book. It looks at how austerity has impacted criminal justice. It talks to lawyers, police, suspects and family members for a rounded view. And it focuses on Wales for the first time. https://t.co/pzvst0sC1I
Justice in a Time of Austerity - my latest book, with @JusticeGap - has now been reviewed in @thetimes.
'Their powerful and important book shows the human impact of austerity.'
You can get the @BrisUniPress book now! https://t.co/pneebYx0c6
*Call for papers klaxon*. @Dr_FaithG and I are putting together an edited collection on access to justice in rural communities. Please get in touch if you are interested in writing about issues such as rural communities, marginalised groups or justice reforms.
I’ve mentioned it a few times but I spent many hours transcribing interviews for the @JAusterity project and while it’s going to be a little bit until the book comes out, their work speaking to advice & support workers, legal advisors, MPs, AMs was just so, so shocking
This is horrific. I feel like it’s really underestimated what housebound disabled people are expected to do for their benefits - you’re inviting a total stranger into your home, whilst already feeling vulnerable from your severe illness. https://t.co/ekqijm00Pj

"What you have done..What you did.. it was the most amazing thing ever! Your letter shook the council to it's core. They were absolutely terrified because they knew they were in the wrong. If it wasn't for you I would have been evicted" #lctoday 1/2
I am also grateful to have been cited at several points in the report. The most important for me is helping set out the negative impact of legal aid cuts on those in need of help in Wales. Tackling the damage done to social welfare law under austerity must be a priority.
The @justiceinwales report is well-informed and lays out the key problems for access to justice in Wales. I am especially glad to see it’s recommendation for devolving justice powers to this country. If we can make our own policy on justice we have the potential fix the problems.
The way we talk about poverty really matters. It matters for the many people in our society who struggle every day, and is crucial to how people understand poverty and support measures to solve it. More in our framing toolkit https://t.co/d6PEFUFKE5 #TalkingAboutPoverty#IDEP2019
