The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Foreign Relations Office strongly condemns the drone attacks that targeted the office of H.E. Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the residence of the Director of the Security and Intelligence Agency.

These dangerous and destabilizing attacks constitute a serious violation of the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. They come at a time when the Kurdistan Region has consistently pursued a responsible policy aimed at keeping both the Region and Iraq away from the conflicts, tensions, and confrontations affecting the wider region. The Kurdistan Region has neither been nor seeks to become a party to these conflicts.

The KDP Foreign Relations Office stresses that such acts serve the interests of no party. On the contrary, they threaten peace and stability, undermine efforts to strengthen constructive relations, and risk further escalating an already fragile regional environment.

We call upon the Federal Government of Iraq to fulfil its constitutional and security responsibilities by taking an unequivocal position against these attacks, conducting a thorough and transparent investigation, holding those responsible accountable, and taking immediate and effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such violations.

The security and stability of the Kurdistan Region are an integral part of the security and stability of Iraq. They must be protected against any attempt to create instability, undermine state institutions, or endanger public safety.

Following an investigation by the Kurdistan Counter-Terrorism Unit, my personal office and the home of the head of the Security and Intelligence Agency were targeted by Iranian drone attacks earlier today.

I condemn these reckless and unacceptable attacks in the strongest terms. This is a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region.

These attacks will not deter us from carrying out our duties and protecting our citizens -mb.

Statement of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Parliamentary bloc in the Iraqi Council of Representatives on the Resumption of Its Parliamentary Work and Activities:

Guided by the national trust placed in us by our people, the Kurdistan Democratic Party Parliamentary bloc has consistently regarded its political positions within the legislative and oversight processes as a means of defending the constitutional rights of all Iraqi citizens, including the legitimate rights of the people of Kurdistan, and of strengthening the foundations of genuine partnership in the governance of the state.

Accordingly, we announce that, in light of the positive understandings reached among the political forces—particularly following the visit of the Prime Minister-designate and the high-level delegation of the Coordination Framework to the Kurdistan Region, and their discussions with the political leadership of our party, as well as the continuation of these efforts through the visit of the KDP negotiating delegation to Baghdad aimed at reaching a comprehensive solution—our bloc has decided to resume its parliamentary duties and activities in the Council of Representatives.

This decision reflects our legal and national responsibility to closely monitor, from within parliament, the implementation of the agreements and understandings related to securing constitutional, legal, and financial rights. At the same time, we reaffirm that we will remain steadfast in defending and securing the full legitimate rights of all Iraqi citizens, including the legitimate rights of the people of Kurdistan.

A KDP delegation, led by the party’s Head of Foreign Relations, Hoshyar Siwaily, attended the International Democracy Union (IDU) conference in Zagreb, Croatia. The conference opened with a reception hosted by the Croatian Democratic Union, Croatia’s ruling party since 2016.

I hope the ceasefire between the United States and Iran will hold, paving the way for lasting stability and peace in the region.

I thank all those who stood by us and helped to protect the Kurdistan Region. The attacks on Kurdistan were never justified. I hope all attacks on civilians, the Peshmerga, critical infrastructure and diplomatic missions will now end.

The Kurdistan Region is ready to support efforts that preserve de-escalation and build on this momentum toward lasting peace across the region.

President Barzani attends the funeral of the martyrs from Zargazewi village

On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, President Masoud Barzani attended the funeral of both martyrs from Zargazewi village in Erbil province. The two martyrs, who were husband and wife, were killed the previous night as a result of an unlawful attack carried out by an Iranian drone, while they were in their home in Zargazewi village.

President Barzani expressed his condolences and sympathy to the families and relatives of the martyrs from Zargazewi village.

During the 30 days of the war, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out 179 attacks, while affiliated militia groups operating inside Iraq and funded by the Iraqi government launched 295 attacks against the Kurdistan Region.

Of the total attacks:
- 370 occurred in Erbil
- 90 in Sulaymaniyah
- 11 in Duhok
- 3 in Halabja

The attacks employed a range of weapons and tactics:
- Suicide drones/UAVs: 359 incidents (75.74%)
- Missiles: 104 incidents (21.94%)
- Artillery shelling: 10 incidents (2.11%)
- Small-arms fire: 1 incident (0.21%)

Approximately 228 attacks—representing 60.76% of all drone and missile threats—were intercepted, neutralized, or failed to reach their intended targets.

We strongly and unequivocally condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on the residence of President Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, in Duhok.

This assault on President Barzani was, in truth, an attack on the Kurdistan Region and on his earnest efforts to promote peace and unity—efforts aimed at protecting Kurdistan and Iraq from wider regional tensions and at preserving stability and security rather than dragging the Region into conflict.

We reaffirm that the Kurdistan Region remains neutral amid the ongoing wars and conflicts in the area and will not be drawn into confrontations. Kurdistan has consistently been a force for peace and political stability, and that principled stance must be respected by all parties.

We call on the Federal Government of Iraq and the relevant authorities to assume their responsibilities and take decisive action to prevent further unjustified attacks on the official and constitutional institutions of the Kurdistan Region. Targeting political leadership and the safety of Kurdistan’s citizens is unacceptable.

The will of the people of Kurdistan for coexistence and progress is stronger than any attempt to undermine it through violence and intimidation.

Their methods of assassination may have changed, but the chauvinistic mindset behind them remains.

This is not the first time such forces have sought to assassinate and intimidate the leadership and national symbols of the Kurds, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, and the Barzani family. Time and again they have adopted new tactics, hiding behind different fronts and disguises, yet their attitude toward the Kurds has stayed the same—rooted in deep-seated hatred and resentment.

The pattern is longstanding: in 1970, Saddam Hussein’s operatives attempted to assassinate the late Idris Barzani, father of President Nechirvan Barzani, in Baghdad while he was implementing the Peace Accord signed months earlier. In 1971 the same anti‑Kurd apparatus sent the cleric Mullah, laden with explosives, to the headquarters of the late Mulla Mustafa Barzani, where he detonated himself, killing several of Barzani’s companions. In 1978, another assassination plot was prepared against President Masoud Barzani during an official visit to Austria. Today, that same historical hatred has resurfaced in the form of an explosive drone aimed at Kak Nechirvan Barzani—a leader who has consistently stood at the forefront of peace, stability, and coexistence. They will not succeed as history has shown.

Message from President Masoud Barzani

In the name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

The Kurdistan Region has never taken part in the conflicts, tensions, or wars that have afflicted this wider region. Yet there are groups—unchecked by any authority—whose sole aim is to antagonize the Region by every possible means. They repeatedly and unjustly target the Kurdistan Region and the Peshmerga, threatening the lives and stability of our people.

Over the past years these groups have launched dozens of aggressive, unjustified drone and rocket attacks against the Kurdistan Region and Peshmerga positions, causing the martyrdom and injury of many innocent civilians. Since the start of this war, more than 450 rocket and drone strikes have hit the Region and Peshmerga forces. During this period our own headquarters were targeted five times; we remained silent then to avoid spreading fear and anger among the public.

Yesterday, however, a drone struck the residence of the President of the Region in Duhok. This is not merely an attack on a single house or site—every inch of Kurdistan and every Kurdish home is precious to us.

Such attacks are blatant acts of hostility, grave injustices, and unacceptable violations against the Kurdistan Region. They demand a serious and decisive end. These matters cannot be resolved by condemnations, phone calls, telegrams, or committees alone. The Iraqi authorities must decide: either acknowledge an inability to prevent these outlaw elements, or act decisively to protect state sovereignty and take firm measures to ensure such brazen attacks do not recur.

We reaffirm that the people of Kurdistan, with iron will and determination, will defend their peaceful mission and their just cause. No threat, aggression, or enemy will ever be able to break that resolve.

Je viens de m’entretenir avec le Président de la région autonome du Kurdistan irakien Nechirvan Barzani.

Je lui ai fait part de mon soutien à la suite de l’attaque inacceptable qui a visé sa résidence à Dohouk ce matin. Ce développement très préoccupant s’ajoute à une recrudescence des attaques contre les institutions irakiennes, comme celle qui a causé la mort de six Peshmergas cette semaine et pour laquelle j’ai fait adressé au Président Barzani toutes mes condoléances.

La souveraineté de l’Irak, et du Kurdistan en son sein, sont indispensables à la stabilité régionale. Tout doit être fait pour éviter que l’Irak ne soit entraîné dans l’escalade en cours. La France demeure aux côtés de ses partenaires irakiens.
