This world has completely lost its meaning.
Captain Ibrahim Traoré just told Burkina Faso's engineering students that their thesis must be something they can hold in their hands. Not a bound document. Not a stack of paper. Something built.
"If you are an engineer, for your thesis, you must manufacture, copy, or build something. Otherwise, we will no longer support the writing of long papers" .
He said it in Yaadga, in northern Burkina Faso, speaking directly to young people and technical students. The message was blunt. Degrees should build nations, not grow egos .
And then he gave them the line that should be printed on every African university wall: "Copy everything you can copy except theory" .
That is not an insult to education. It is a demand for relevance. A continent that needs machines, factories, tools, and roads keeps producing paperwork instead, and calls it progress. The thesis gets filed on a shelf where no one reads it again. Nothing is built. Nothing changes on the ground .
Traoré is not telling students to invent everything from scratch. He is telling them to reverse-engineer. To take what already exists, understand it, reproduce it, and then improve it. That is how China built its industrial base. That is how Japan built its car industry. They copied, they built, they improved, and then they surpassed the people they learned from .
His government is putting infrastructure behind the rhetoric. The Technological Academy of Faso at Pabré is designed to train Burkinabè engineers at home rather than sending them abroad and hoping they return. Forty new university lecture complexes are under construction across the country .
The old model produced graduates who could write about engineering. Traoré wants graduates who can do engineering.

ADAMAWA APPROVES N169BN SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET, MULTI-BILLION NAIRA INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved a supplementary budget proposal of N169.1 billion for the 2026 fiscal year alongside multiple contract awards for key infrastructure, healthcare, and energy projects across the state.
The approvals were finalised during the 16th council meeting of the year, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola on Thursday, 24 September.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Leader Leneke, stated that the supplementary budget will be transmitted to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for legislative approval.
If passed, the N169,109,028,894.00 addition will expand the state’s 2026 budget from its initial figure of N582,331,380,496.00 to a revised total of N752,437,409,390.00.
The executive council reviewed and approved 13 major memos across two consecutive sessions. Key infrastructure contracts awarded include:
Roads and Drainage Infrastructure: N11.31 billion for township roads and storm water drainage in Gulak and Shuwa, as well as road networks at the College of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Studies; N3.68 billion for access roads at the new Building Material Market along Numan Road; N3.21 billion for drainage and roads at the Mubi Cattle Market; and N484.1 million for flood control drainage at Anguwan Magaji in Yola South.
Sports Infrastructure:
N10.5 billion for internal and external road networks, parking facilities, and surrounding infrastructure at the state's new international stadium.
Street Lighting & Public Works:
N6.36 billion for the installation of integrated solar-powered streetlights along the superhighway and the 1,000 Housing Estate in Malkohi, alongside N376.9 million for a storm drain at the new NYSC Orientation Camp in Malkohi.
Power Restoration & Electrification:
N3.37 billion allocated across seven lots to rehabilitate power infrastructure damaged by Boko Haram insurgents in the Madagali and Michika Local Government Areas, starting from Uba. Additionally, N249.8 million was approved to extend electricity to the Bengo community in Fufore LGA.
Healthcare & Tertiary Education: N1.78 billion for high-end diagnostic medical equipment (including FibroScan and ultrasound units) and N462.8 million for new dialysis machines; N690.9 million for the renovation of the Lamurde Cottage Hospital and its staff quarters; and N358.5 million for the design, costing, and supervision of 11 student hostels across five state-owned tertiary institutions.
Addressing public safety matters, Hon. Leneke urged residents living in riverine communities to remain vigilant and prepare to move to higher ground, citing forecasts of imminent end-of-season flooding across the state.

Adamawa State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on Thursday joined family members, friends and well-wishers at the three-day Fida’u prayer for the late Alhaji Bakari Hamman Tukur Mbalgare, father of the Governor’s Principal Special Assistant on New Media, Muhammad Bakari Tukur.
The prayer, held in Yola, brought together government officials, religious leaders, family members and other sympathisers who gathered to seek Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for the deceased and pray for the repose of his soul in Aljannatul Firdaus.
Leading the prayers, Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kaduna urged the gathering to continue praying for the deceased and the bereaved family, stressing the importance of faith, patience and submission to the will of Allah in times of loss.
The Islamic scholar, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for personally identifying with the family at a difficult moment. He described the Governor’s presence as a demonstration of leadership and solidarity with those mourning the loss of a loved one.
Sheikh Ahmad Umar Kaduna and other Islamic scholars also prayed for Allah to continue to grant Governor Fintiri wisdom, guidance and protection as he leads the state.
The late Alhaji Bakari Hamman Tukur Mbalgare died on Monday after a brief illness. He is survived by children, siblings and other family members.
Governor Fintiri was accompanied to the prayer by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Awwal Tukur; APC gubernatorial candidate, Ahmed Tijjani Galadima Aminu; commissioners; and other senior government officials.
MALLAM NASIR EL-RUFAI APPEARS BEFORE THE NJC OVER ALLEGATIONS OF JUDICIAL BIAS, DENIAL OF FAIR HEARING AND UNEQUAL BAIL TREATMENT
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has appeared before the National Judicial Council (NJC) over his petition concerning the conduct of some judges handling cases involving him.
The petition raises allegations of judicial bias, denial of fair hearing and concerns over how proceedings and bail applications have been handled. The NJC has established procedures for complaints of judicial misconduct, making it the appropriate institution to examine such concerns.
The background is significant: a Federal High Court granted Mallam ₦200 million bail with stringent conditions, while the Kaduna State High Court subsequently refused bail in the separate ICPC matter. The Kaduna court also dismissed his third bail application in June.
These different rulings raise legitimate questions about the application of bail, fair hearing and judicial discretion that should be answered through the courts and the appropriate institutions, not through social media.
A petition to the NJC is not a verdict against any judge. It is a request for the body responsible for judicial discipline to examine the allegations and determine whether they have merit.
El-Rufai Live will not try the judges on this platform. We will follow the proceedings, report the facts and allow the NJC and the courts to address the issues raised.
Today, @elrufai has taken his grievance to the institution empowered to examine judicial conduct. The questions are now before the appropriate authority.

A TRUE-LIFE STORY ❤️🥹
Yesterday morning, I was travelling in a Keke Napep when a little girl stopped us. She looked at the driver and said:
“Keke driver, good morning.”
He replied, “Good morning. How are you?”
She said, “Alhamdulillah.”
He asked her, “Where are you going?”
She replied, “School gate. Can you take me there? How much is the fare?”
He told her, “₦300.”
She became quiet. She lowered her head, and her eyes became red as if she was about to cry.
Then she said:
“Keke Napep driver, I only have ₦100. Will you take me?”
He replied:
“No, honestly, I can't. You have to pay ₦300.”
She quietly said:
“Okay, no problem. You can go. Even if you take me, I don't know who will bring me back home. This ₦100 is the only money my mother gave me.”
Then she said something that really touched me:
“I will just have to walk. My mother doesn't have any more money. I put my trust in Allah. Good people have not disappeared. There are still people who love the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If one person doesn't take me, another person will.”
The driver then said:
“Okay, keep your ₦100. I'll take you for free.”
So we continued our journey.
As we travelled, I looked at her and asked:
“Is your father still alive?”
She replied:
“Yes. My father is a soldier. Whenever he goes away, it takes a long time before he returns.”
I asked her another question:
“Who normally gives you money for transportation to school every day?”
She said:
“My father sends money to them at the end of every month. But after they buy food and other necessities, the money they give me for transportation to school is what remains.”
I asked again:
“So, has the money finished now? What happened?”
She replied:
“My mother became sick and was taken to the hospital. She was put on a drip and was also given blood. They called my father and told him what had happened. He said he honestly didn't have any money because the month was already far gone.”
She continued:
“So they sold the food they had bought and also used the money meant for my Keke Napep fare to pay for my mother's treatment. That's why I'm walking to school today.”
I was asking her all these questions with so much emotion that I almost cried. 🥲
Then I asked:
“Do you attend an Islamic school?”
She said:
“Yes. When we were in Kano, I attended an Islamiyya school. But since we moved back to Abuja, I haven't been enrolled in one. My mother teaches me how to read the Qur'an at home every day.”
With every question I asked, she gave a clear and intelligent answer.
I was honestly amazed. She was such a young girl, yet she spoke with so much knowledge, maturity and understanding.
When we finally reached the school gate, I had ₦1,500 in my pocket. I decided to give her ₦1,000.
But as she was about to get down and leave, the Keke driver said:
“I heard everything you two have been talking about. So keep your ₦1,000.”
He called the girl back.
Then he brought out ₦7,000 and gave it to her.
He said:
“Keep this money somewhere safe so you don't lose it. When you get home, give it to your mother and tell her to buy ₦5,000 worth of food for the family. Keep the remaining ₦2,000 for yourself so you can continue paying for your Keke Napep fare until your father receives his salary.”
Then he added:
“When you get home, tell your mother that someone who loves the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave you this money.”
He then brought out another ₦500 and gave it to her.
He said:
“Keep this too. Add it to the ₦100 you already have. Use ₦300 to buy breakfast, and keep ₦300 for your Keke fare when school closes so you can get back home.”
After the girl left, I looked at the man and asked:
“Brother, are you also a soldier, or perhaps a government worker?”
He laughed and said:
“No, wallahi. I'm neither. I sell soup ingredients. In fact, I'm on my way to the market right now.”

Gaddafi even questioned why the United Nations itself should remain centred permanently in New York rather than rotating between regions of the world.
He did not come to praise the international order.
He came to challenge who had the power to write its rules.
Seventeen years later, the faces have changed. The language has changed. The world itself is moving toward a different balance of power.
But the fundamental question remains:
Will the United Nations represent the nations of the world, or will the world continue to be governed through institutions built around the power of a few?
