South African billionaire Robert Gumede heavily promotes Pan-African business networks and cross-border investments through his flagship investment holding company, Guma Group. Gumede operates under a core philosophy that the current era is the "African Century", pushing for the industrialisation of all 54 nations on the continent.
In this video, back in May, Gumede is seen heavily praising Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote's mega oil refinery, the world's largest single-train refinery, saying without it, Africa would be left as vulnerable to global supply shocks as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking at the Africa-France Summit in May, Gumede highlighted the project as a monumental step forward for continental self-reliance and economic liberation.
He explicitly remarked, "Without Dangote having built the biggest refinery in the world, Africa today would be sitting just like we sat during COVID-19 without vaccination".
Gumede lauded the project as "an African product produced by an African for Africa", celebrating its ability to slash the continent's heavy reliance on foreign fuel imports.
He pointed out African countries stepping up to embrace ⁠Dangote Fuel demonstrates the raw power of African businessmen and nations supporting one another.

I still maintain, rather than extraditing him back to the UK, I would rather see an agreement with the Zim authorities for him to serve a prison sentence in Zim.
Zim’s prisons are far harsher than those in the UK.
That would be a more fitting punishment for such a serious crime.
If he is returned to the UK, he will end up in a prison with a bed, TV, regular meals and decent living conditions.
That would not feel like justice.

Hunt is spot on.
All week I have seen people confidently predicting that Farage is about to resign.
That assumption reflects how ordinary, principled people think, not how a Trumpian person thinks. Voluntary resignation requires accepting accountability or recognising that it's time to step aside.
Expecting Farage to resign simply because the pressure is mounting misunderstands the mindset of someone with a rotten agenda.

I am a big believer in supporting African owned businesses, especially African restaurants.
But one thing that consistently disappoints me is the lack of attention to hygiene in some of them.
Now whenever I visit one for the first time, I make a point of checking the toilets before ordering food.
I genuinely want to support our businesses, but good hygiene isn't optional. It's one of the basics of running a successful restaurant.

So today I went looking for bathroom fittings at Wickes and came across this very interesting toilet. It instantly reminded me of my childhood growing up in Murewa in the 1980s. To be honest, it brought back memories that are quite traumatic for me.

What surprised me is that here in England these old-fashioned, high-level cistern toilets are sold as premium products. I suppose it is because they evoke a sense of nostalgia and Victorian heritage, turning what was once an everyday household item into a stylish, luxury design feature. It is fascinating how something that reminds one person of hardship can remind someone else of history, tradition and elegance.
