Timothée Chalamet calls WONKA “the riskiest thing” he’s done in his career:
“It was untraditional career step. That movie didn’t get its fair shake. I thought it was punk rock to do something that wasn’t cool. I don’t think people really took it that way.
HONORING AN ICON
WATCH: President Bongbong Marcos bestows the Presidential Medal of Merit on National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, Nora Aunor, recognizing her cultural impact and unmatched contributions to Philippine cinema.
Aunor, dubbed the “Superstar,” portrayed powerful and nuanced Filipina characters in more than 200 films. She passed away on April 16, 2025. | @TristanNodalo
Nora Aunor was the everyday Filipino, even at the height of her superstardom. When she gained the power to produce her own films, she didn't chase easy box office returns. Instead, she illuminated the lives of those on the margins, giving voice to the silenced. She wielded her art as both a defiance and a championing force. Yes, she was the superstar, but she constantly reminded us that she was also one of us, who just happened to shine so brightly, a storyteller who dared to look where others wouldn't.
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) announces with great sadness the passing of National Artist Nora Aunor on April 16, 2025, at the age of 71. State necrological services and funeral details to follow.
