@erinoverbey What would MLK, Malcolm X, James Baldwin, Muhammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, D.E.B Dubois, Paul Robson or Frederick Douglass think?

What some people refuse to acknowledge is that both Trump & Putin are the outcome of the disastrous neoliberal policies 1990-2008. In the US, the policy hollowed out the middle, reduced their status domestically, and produced little growth for them. This fueled Tramp's rise.
For nearly a year, security officials and anti-war advocates have warned the Biden-Harris administration that supplying weapons to Israel's extreme, far-right government would inevitably heighten the risk of a regional war. And now, here we are.
In the accelerated march to the Convention, Democrats put aside debate in favor of party unity. As a result, the national ticket supports fracking & an expansion of oil production, opposes Medicare For All, hints that it will revert back to laissez-faire antitrust enforcement, blushes at the neocons who brought us Iraq, is mum on the soon-to-expire Trump tax cuts, offers nothing on Social Security, cozies up to the crypto-boys, and seems to be committed to a no-strings, pro-Israeli policy which has produced war, famine, and the indiscriminate slaughter of the Palestinian civilian population.
Fortunately, the GOP is led by a debauched charlatan and convicted felon who relies on the old, extreme-right playbook...tax giveaways, the gutting of federal oversight, the auctioning of public policy to plutocrats, xenophobia, hate, and divisiveness.
In this light, the status quo candidate is - or should be - the more reasonable option. But voters don't always do the 'reasonable' thing. Ask Al Gore, John Kerry & Hillary Clinton.
The old GOP playbook has been around so long because, despite everything, it often works.
If Americans are not always 'reasonable', they ARE aspirational. Democrats are held to a higher standard. Why not strive for that higher standard? The voting majority has had enough of fence-sitters, script-readers, game show hosts and canned politicians afraid or incapable of taking positions which have not been pre-approved by the donor-class.
'Playing it safe' can be very dangerous.
Political candidates cannot run down the clock. Stump speeches & platitudes won’t do. We now have wars in Europe, Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon & Yemen. The American public does not want another generation of Forever Wars.
Agree. Trump was the anti-war candidate in 2016. Trump said that W’s war in Iraq was a disaster based on lies. All of the other GOP candidates had supported the war and could only whimper & protest about Trump’s manners. Trump exposed the Republican establishment. Pleased with themselves, Democrats laughed at the spectacle only to be exposed on this same issue later.
Typical exercise. Host in skinny suit starts with a (predictable) loaded question about Israel’s ‘right to exist’. This is intended as a shield….a transparent attempt to conflate a legitimate criticism of Israeli policy with its very existence. Coates handled this with poise, intelligence & dignity.
Ta-Nehisi Coates’ new book, “The Message,” is a trio of interconnected essays that examine how the stories people tell — or avoid telling — can shape and even distort reality: “I am most concerned always with those that don’t have a voice.” https://t.co/bDsBxZMbah

Is Walter progressive or conservative? Doesn’t matter. What matters is that Walter stares into the darkness when he learns that he has a terminal illness. He can accept death but cannot fathom bringing his entire family down with him. Middle class, normal, employed, middle aged man. Health care, life insurance, retirement pension…Breaking Bad was so powerful because every American could identify with Walt.
