@aansari86 That’s fair; the rigor is a good thing. I just think the cognitive labor you described up too contributes to what ends up amounting to a form of gatekeeping - even if unintentional. It’s the ever present tension between specialist/generalist knowledge creation & sharing.
@aansari86 It’s a bummer but it’s one of the main reasons I haven’t played in that world much. I’d love to spend more time in those circles but it requires one to (ironically) burrow more deeply into what becomes a cognitive silo when we should all be doing the opposite. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We recorded three more episodes of the 97 UX Things podcast this week. @jbriselli, @kmtom, and @DienerDaniel all provided useful insights for y'all and I can't wait to release all these episodes!

Hello, #teamrhetoric -- what books would you recommend for a friend who has no rhetoric background but has grown interested to learn about it, and requested "best go-to rhetoric book(s) that won't put me to sleep" ?
All *my* usual suggestions are likely to put him to sleep.. 😆
Talented and hard-working people help pull others up to their level
The worst people in every room are always focused on gatekeeping because they don't believe they can hold on to what they have through doing a good job, and so put all their energy into keeping everyone else out
@emilyabell@BradFHenderson@beccanalia Hmm. I can't help directly with either, but I immediately thought of my buddy Mike, who I don't think is on twitter but you can find his email below; he's a metalhead and librarian. He may have ideas or other people who could help... tell him Jen sent you? https://t.co/bqG90Wg6Os
@aansari86 That’s fair! I thought of friction because of how it contributed to entropy converting real, useful kinetic energy into dissipated thermal energy (entropy). A very mechanical physics metaphor. But there’s an equivalent organic one at play too! Interesting to contrast the two.
@aansari86 "Edu-tropy"? 😆I do like *friction* as a metaphor here - friction (wastefully) converts energy into heat.. The whole phenomenon is a form of career-values-friction and, similar to the physical concept, sometimes it decelerates things, other times it holds things in stasis...
@camerontw From a distance, I've often sensed a little bit of Ernest Becker style "denial of death" dynamics playing out for folks who encounter your work but don't for whatever reason have the ability or resources to adjust/accomodate (vs. assimilate) & update their mental models/schema.
@inkblurt@SDNetwork Not sure if they plan to share recordings publicly but I’ll share slides & I plan to write up (or maybe record) a more in depth version of the content very soon. Stay tuned!
Refreshing to finally hear a real, honest + ongoing case of organisational change (or anarchy!) from @jbriselli and @MadPow moving from explicit policy and hierarchy to guiding principles with collective autonomy ✨

@camerontw I just read Dawn of Everything earlier this year and had the same thought - but no one to discuss it with who had read both so I just shouted it into the void for a bit… I’m giving a talk later this week where I’m hoping to sneak the same notion in…
