According to the American Red Cross, blood is needed for emergency situations every two seconds in the United States. Blood is used for surgeries and transfusions for cancer patients and sickle cell patients.

Yesterday, Congress voted on the rescission package to eliminate $9 billion in federal funding, some of which was previously allocated to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which affects PBS, NPR, and MPB.

This means the programs you count on — NOVA, Masterpiece, Morning Edition, and all the children’s programming on PBS Kids, including - Sesame Street, Wild Kratts, and Daniel Tiger — are at risk. These are not free to air, and without federal funding, we will be forced to make incredibly tough decisions about what we can continue to offer.

It threatens our ability to tell local stories, to provide free educational programming to children, and to be a lifeline during emergencies.
