The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), @Makerere, @MbararaUST, and @UMassChan supported by Fogarty International Center of the U.S National Institute of Health are offering a competitive Master’s Research Scholarship.

Covers:
Full tuition fees (Mak or MUST)
1-year monthly stipend
Research & fieldwork costs
Mentorship & scientific conference presentation support

Target:
Ugandan Master’s students at Mak or MUST in biomedical disciplines (Medicine, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Bio, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, etc.) who have completed Year 1 and are ready for research.

JCRC took part in the Uganda National Accreditation Services (UGANAS) Stakeholders' Engagement Meeting in Kampala yesterday, where partners from government, the private sector and other institutions reflected on Uganda's accreditation journey and the way forward.

The Guest of Honor was Dr Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services, @MinofHealthUG. Representing JCRC was Gordon Mpamize, Programs Director, Strengthening Public Health Laboratory System in Uganda (SPHLS) project.

The day highlighted that collaboration and partnership are essential for sustainability in an ever-evolving world, especially as the JCRC/SPHLS project comes to a close.

Facilitated by leading experts, including Makerere University's Prof. Lawrence Mugisha, the training focused on risk assessments, biosecurity controls, and regulatory adherence to ensure safe handling of biological agents.

Early diagnosis of Sickle Cell Disease saves lives. 🩸

Yesterday, health workers in Jinja City were trained in newborn screening, early diagnosis and quality care for people living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD).

The training was organized by the @MinofHealthUG in collaboration with JCRC, Terumo, IMARA and Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, and attended by the National Sickle Cell Coordinator and the Jinja City Health Officer.

Early diagnosis saves lives. By building the capacity of health workers, we are bringing quality SCD prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care closer to families in Jinja City.

🎉 Big milestone for JCRC research!

Our team just published a paper on how we transformed over 48,000 patient records and decades of data into a format used by health researchers around the world.
The paper is titled, "From Fragmentation to Federation: Multi-Partner OMOP Implementation in Uganda Enabling Global Real-World Evidence Generation," published in Frontiers in Digital Health.

Behind this achievement: Dr. Francis Kanyike and Dr. Cissy Kityo Mutuluuza led the charge, backed by a dedicated JCRC data team and partners at Gilead Sciences and IQVIA.

Why it matters: JCRC can now contribute to international HIV and hepatitis research while keeping patient data safe and private, right here at home.

Last Friday, we hosted our Joint Annual Staff Thanksgiving Prayers at the JCRC Headquarters in Lubowa. We were joined by religious leaders and representatives from the Catholic, Anglican, Adventist, Muslim, and Pentecostal faiths!

We thanked God for JCRC's achievements and milestones, and prayed for continued guidance, sustainability and growth.
We further prayed for wisdom and strength for our leadership, and protection and wellbeing for all staff. Special prayers went up for the success of our Bone Marrow Transplant fundraising drive and for all our ongoing and planned projects.
