One of the things that bothers me about #TheApothecaryDiaries fandom is that some people insist on romanticizing Yang (the Emperor) and Ah Duo as a couple, when clearly she *never* harbored romantic feelings for him, and Yang remains extremely obsessed with and possessive of her to this day, even though she is no longer his consort. There is nothing romantic about that pairing; it is tragic, sad, and toxic on Yang's part. Ah Duo had to make yet another vow —sacrificing her own desires and dreams once more — just to get Yang to set aside his selfishness regarding Jinshi and abandon the plan to make him the next emperor. It is heartbreaking to see the extent to which she had to efface herself again, simply to ensure her son—her *only* son—would have the freedom he always craved, far removed from the burden of the imperial family. All of this because Yang is selfish and obsessed with a woman who never loved him the way he wanted, a fact he still seems unable to accept. Ah Duo must have felt such happiness and relief seeing that Jinshi is the exact opposite of Yang, preferring to give up Maomao and her love rather than trap her in the palace the way Yang did to Ah Duo.
That single tear.
Some say that Hiyori didn't care about her life, that she actually wanted to die, but that's such nonsense. She was sixteen; she had plenty of plans, as well as family and friends she cared about deeply. All she wanted was to save the ones she loved.
Yato is unhealthily clingy and has many bad traits; Yukine has fits of rage and jealousy; Mizuchi does terrible things just to please Father. All three are abused children, all three behave accordingly, and I love all three of them.
