2023 book thread 📚
I want to read more this year instead of phone scrolling and watching bad daytime TV while on maternity leave! Aiming for a mix of fiction, history and CPD to get me ready to go back to work!
We are delighted to introduce our new bursary scheme, encouraging even more students to take part in onsite workshops! Eligible schools can be given £500 to go towards the cost of the visit.
Applications will be open from 2-13 September. Find out more: https://t.co/OPQ4Xe6v3g
Big fan of ‘one point of reference’ formats and this summative multiple choice quiz is a great one. Students answer topic wide questions, building in difficulty. From this, areas to work on can be identified and Q’s returned to for revision #historyteacher

After a long, difficult term with too much low level behaviour draining my energy while ill, it was lovely to have my faith restored by y10s competitive revision timelines 🙂 they smashed it!

This morning I’ve been working on some GCSE materials for opposition to the Nazis. Bringing back some lessor known individuals such as Joseph Fath, Paul Schneider, August Landmesser and groups like the Jehovah’s Witnesses #historyteacher
@YodelOnline I had an email saying my parcel was ready to collect with a code and everything, but it's not in the store. They say its a repeating problem that you're sending emails without actually delivering the parcels!
What gives??
With finishing teaching the Normans, here are some of my favourite activities from lessons and some lovely examples of independence in our exercise books 🧵
1 - Examining Odo’s life by reading through his timeline three times from different perspectives
A thread talking through our new scheme of work on abolition, beginning here with an intro to the TAST. Students learn about when and where the trade emerged, and analyse the role of different groups in the development of the trade. All resources here: https://t.co/3moMG4p8uF
Looking for more medieval women for your SOW 👇🏻
👸🏼 Empress Irene
Fascinating example of a female medieval ruler who blinded her own son to retain power. Link here for a story, source, scholarship resource https://t.co/yutscYDCfF
Dates for GCSE students are often a stumbling block. Kept it simple with Y10/11 with the ‘Date and Event Match Up’. Pupils match the dates/events first, which is then peer marked and followed up with a recalled explanation. Basic format but effective/adaptable. #historyteacher
Here's a nice little task if you are teaching empire - The Empire Plate. I originally took it from an old SHP resource book. I haven't used it for a number of years and it needed a bit of an update #historyteacher
Wow!
Anyone who teaches with a visualiser and PPT
Insert -> Cameo then select your camera shape
When visualiser is attached, click on cameo shape, then in the toolbar, camera format -> camera preview then select visualiser
Even more fun on a Mac as you can select an iPhone!
It you are looking to get some local history into your curriculum then ‘A Street Near You https://t.co/hcvGA3ReZx… is a good place to start. You can very quickly build up a database of soldiers from your town who lost their lives during World War One #historyteacher
Last year I was introduced to Nellie Spindler, a nurse from WW1. She is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery (men only). With some research I’ve been able to put together a lesson looking at six other woman who made an enormous contribution to WW1 #historyteacher
