"The horses were packed into echoing metal trailers and trucked 1,800 miles east to the pens of a hard-luck livestock trader in Ohio named Brandon Jones, who bought them for $25 each.
A day later, two double-decker cattle trucks pulled up at midnight, loaded the mustangs and quickly drove off into the night.
From there the mustangs disappeared. They never appeared at a public auction. The trader won’t say where they went. Wild horse advocates suspect the horses were shipped to slaughter."

How can you possibly vote for a Republican if you're a child of immigrants? Or a millennial? Or a person of color? Or LGBTQ? Or a veteran? Or a senior? Or on a fixed income? Or an educator? Or in a labor union? Or an environmentalist? Or in need of steady health care? Or a woman? Or compassionate? Or humble? Or sane?
The Declaration is America's great moral power. It animates her and it directs her. A country that stops believing its own founding principles has nothing left to steer by.
🚨 BREAKING: In addition to the destruction of areas of Big Bend & the National Mall in DC, Trump has now moved forward with plans to allow construction & deforestation in 45 MILLION ACRES of our pristine National Forests. This is insane. Those are OUR LANDS.
Big Bend has the darkest measured night sky in the entire lower 48.
The kind of dark you can't get back once you start cutting roads and putting up lights.
I’m sure you saw that contractors started clearing land near Santa Elena Canyon this weekend. Mariscal Mountain is next.
Willow and mesquite trees that stood for generations, gone. Habitat for the yellow-billed cuckoo, a threatened species, gone with them.
Reports on the ground say pottery shards were found during construction this weekend. They say the National Park Service hasn't been allowed to inspect the site.
No archaeological survey was done before this started. DHS has waived dozens of environmental and historic protection laws to fast-track this project. Big Bend holds an estimated 26,000 archaeological sites, most never surveyed. Nobody knows what's underneath those roads until it's already gone.
Contractors have drilled water wells across the region to support this construction. The Rio Grande, the park's only real water source, is already stretched thin by drought. NPS itself says the river is "hanging only by a thread."
Here's who's cashing in. DHS waived the rules that normally make companies compete for these contracts. Almost $14 billion in new Texas wall contracts went out. Nearly three quarters of it went to just two companies.
Barnard Construction. Fisher Sand & Gravel.
Barnard's chairman personally donated $1 million to Trump's campaign fund in 2024. His company has pulled in $5.6 billion in border contracts since, nearly $2 billion for Big Bend alone.
Fisher Sand & Gravel is run by Tommy Fisher, a longtime Trump ally and GOP donor. His company has landed over $2 billion in border wall contracts. He was also tied to the "We Build the Wall" scheme, whose leaders, including Steve Bannon, were later convicted of fraud.
The crew bulldozing Santa Elena Canyon this weekend, Southwest Valley Constructors, got their $1.7 billion contract through that same no-bid process.
DHS isn't answering for any of it, and it's waiving every law in the book to keep building. Abbott is the one staying silent while bipartisan Texas lawmakers from his own party beg him to intervene.
And they're doing this to stop crossings that barely happen. Big Bend logged 9,624 encounters over the last three fiscal years. One single sector on our northern border with Canada, Swanton, logged more than double that.
$1.7 billion, to stop something that happens this rarely.
The mountains and canyons already are the biggest deterrent.
They're already the wall here.

Trump and Vance do not even protest when Russia bombs major U.S. companies in Ukraine.
They persistently vote in favor of Russia in the UN General Assembly on Ukraine.
Sad that the US cannot control a pro-Russian president.
I wasn't the first to say it, but I've repeated it often - every projection Trump makes is a confession.
Psychological projection was first described by Freud, wherein individuals transfer their own unacceptable impulses, desires, or emotions onto someone else. Carl Jung expanded this idea with the concept of a shadow self - when we project, we cast a shadow onto others, seeing in them what we refuse to acknowledge in ourselves. It's not a leap to see this in Trump every f*cking day. He projects constantly.
But the biggest psychological projection of the Trump years is going on right now, and boy does it play to the ignorance of his base. This, of course, is the characterization of Democrats as communists. The Trump base, however, puts feeling before fact, and dopamine rushes before reasoned thought. They hear "Communist" and they hear "bad" so the attribution of Dems as Communist plays. They put no effort into understanding what the communist ideology actually preaches. Because it's a lot easier to feel than to think.
In Communism, the government wields power; it exerts control over the economy; it buys or takes stakes in businesses and industries; the government is weaponized to silence adversarial dissent; and the government glorifies its leadership. You want to see Communism in America? Look at Trumpism.
Where every projection is a confession.
